Hello everyone! I want to share a little story about my chili pepper/ Native Chili plant in our backyard. This may be a small thing for others, but for me, it brings big joy and help to our family.
One day, we had extra chili pepper left from cooking. It was more than what we could use, and I didn’t want it to go to waste. Instead of throwing them in the trash, I had an idea, why not plant them?
I looked around and found some of plastic pots just sitting in the corner of our backyard. Some are from old plants and others were even cracked but still usable. I got soil from our garden and placed the seeds from the chili we didn’t use. I watered them a little and placed them in a sunny spot.
After a few weeks, I saw little green sprouts coming out. That made me so happy! Every morning, I check on them. I water them and even talk to them sometimes, just for fun. It’s now part of my daily routine.
These small chili plants are more helpful than I thought. Whenever we cook dishes that need a little spice, like tinola, paksiw, adobo or even dipping sauces. We just go outside and pick fresh chili. No need to go to the market. It’s not only convenient, but it also saves more.
Chili is really useful in many dishes. We used it to make food spicy. Flavorful and exciting. I also noticed that when I serve food with fresh chili, my family eats more. Maybe it’s because the flavor is stronger and more satisfying.
I also read in books and heard from others that chili is good for the body. It has something called ‘capsaicin” this is what makes it spicy. But it’s also what helps the body in many ways. Chili helps us with digestion, Boosts the immune system, may help with weight loss, gives vitamin C and antioxidants and also Makes us sweat which is good for releasing toxins.
Gardening has become one of my favorite things to do now. It makes me feel calm and happy. Even if we have only a small space in our backyard, I believe we can grow something useful.
So, if you’re reading this, and you have extra chili or seeds. Try planting them. Use old containers or pots. You don’t need to be a gardening expert. Just start with what you have. A little care everyday goes a long way.
