Today I visited my farm in the village. The joy in my heart was overwhelming. I couldn't believe the crops I almost gave up on survived the partial drought we have suffered this year. I had planted during the early rain that fell in the month of April, what looked like a risk became my saving grace during the drought.
At first the crops struggled to survive. The maize leaves were yellowish, like they wouldn't survive but then it rained and that became their saving grace, picking up the little rainfall to gain all they've lost during the month.
Couldn't believe my eyes how suddenly they've grown and are bearing fruits already. I had planted not just maize, but groundnut, yam and other crops not shown in the picture.
For the first time in a while I smiled. Knowing the little I invested wouldn't go down the drain. The countenance clearly reflects the joy of a farmer, the beauty that comes with each green leaf.
Among the crops are okra, planted for the purpose of making soups. This also has bloomed nicely and I know in a short time they'll be fully mature. A good produce is a dream of every farmer. In a few weeks from now, we'll be talking about harvest.
