Worm box / Wurmbox

We have a worm box in our flat for a few years. What is a worm box?	Wir haben seit ein paar Jahren eine Wurmkiste in unserer Wohnung. Was ne Wurmkiste ist?
Very simple. A kind of compost heap in a box with worms. Our organic waste that we haven't processed goes in there. So carrot peelings, onion scins, wilted leaves from flowers etc. Nothing cooked, seasoned or processed. We boil a lot of our vegetable waste down to vegetable stock, but whatever else is left over goes in there. They come in different sizes and designs.	Ganz einfach. Eine Art Komposthaufen in einer Kiste mit Würmern. Da kommen unsere Bioabfälle rein, die wir nicht verarbeitet haben. Also Karottenschalen, Zwiebelschalen, welke Blätter von Blumen etc. Nichts Gekochtes, gewürztes oder verarbeitetes. Einen Großteil unserer Gemüsereste verkochen wir zu Gemüsefond, aber was sonst übrigbleibt, kommt da rein. Es gibt die in verschiedenen Größen und Ausführungen.
There are worms in there and they decompose the organic waste. What comes out is organic soil and a worm juice at the bottom, which is extremely good for fertilising. This box is in our flat and no, it doesn't stink if you do it right.	Da drin sind Würmer und zersetzen den Bioabfall. Raus kommt Bio Erde und unten ein Wurm Saft, der zum Düngen extrem gut geeignet ist. Diese Box steht bei uns in der Wohnung und nein, die Stinkt nicht, wenn man es richtig macht.
The only thing we struggle with from time to time are little fruit flies. But we're still doing something wrong there. We will solve that problem too.	Das einzige mit dem wir ab und zu kämpfen, sind kleine Fruchtfliegen. Aber da machen wir noch was falsch. Das Problem werden wir auch noch lösen.

And now it was time to harvest the earth again. Actually it is simple. You cover the upper half with polenta semolina the day before, then the worms almost all come up into the upper box. So you can actually take out the box and simply harvest the soil below.	Und jetzt war wiedermal Zeit, die Erde zu ernten. Eigentlich ist es simpel. Man bedeckt am Vortag die obere Hälfte mit Polenta Grieß, dann kommen die Würmer fast alle nach oben in die obere Kiste. Somit kann man eigentlich die Kiste herausnehmen und die Erde unten einfach ernten.

Actually. Our worms didn't want to go where we thought they would this time. They just stayed down in the ground.	Eigentlich. Unsere Würmer wollten dieses Mal nicht wo wie wir uns das vorgestellt haben. Sie sind einfach unten in der Erde geblieben.

So we thought we'd just pick the worms out and then put them back on the organic waste in the box.	Also dachten wir, wir picken die Würmer einfach raus und legen diese dann wieder auf den Biomüll in die Kiste.

It wasn't that easy after all. After half an hour, we both didn't feel to go on like this any more. We managed to do about half of it, then we packed the rest back into the box and are going to do it all over again. Maybe it will work out the next day.	So einfach war es dann doch nicht. Nach einer halben Stunde hatten wir beide keine Lust mehr. So ca. die Hälfte haben wir geschafft, denn Rest haben wir dann wieder in die Kiste gepackt und gehen, dass ganze nochmal an. Vielleicht klappt es ja am nächsten Tag.

Does any of you have one of these and an idea why the worms didn't come up this time?	Hat jemand von euch so ein Ding und ne Idee, warum die Würmer diesesmal nicht nach oben gekommen sind?
