Hi my fellow Garden lovers,
How are you Hivers? I hope everything are going very well with you. Since I stay at home most of the week, I have more time in the morning to focus on my garden. You already know that there are many advantages to growing crops in our own garden. The situation in my garden is different from the situation two weeks ago. Currently, I only add compost fertilizer made from leafy greens to my crops, and in the future, I hope to add agricultural fertilizers to increase the yield. I also hope to remove unnecessary plants and re-prepare the soil on an upcoming holiday to improve my cultivation. I will use this content to explain the current situation.
These days, my wife is constantly with her little daughter, so there is not enough time to focus on the cultivation due to her workload. The okra plants that my wife dug holes in the ground and planted as seeds a few months ago are now growing and yielding continuously. Usually, the first harvest can be harvested in just two months after planting the okra plants. In the early days, the harvest from these plants was not much because the sunlight was blocked by the shade of the banana trees. Now, the sunlight is falling after the banana leaves were cut. Okra grows better in dry zones than in wet zones. However, our okra leaves, which are a common feature that hinders the growth of okra plants, are also subject to destruction. The disease can be prevented by removing the damaged leaves. Only if the damage is severe, recommended insecticides can be used. Sometimes, white spots can also be seen on the surface of the leaves. It is called downy mildew. I hope to plant new okra seeds during the holidays.
The spinach plant that my wife planted as a very small plant is now spreading well according to the care I have given it for the past three weeks. Usually, by planting only three or four such spinach plants, the domestic consumption requirement can be easily met. The large-leafed varieties that I have grown are mostly used for cultivation. I know that there is also a red spinach variety, but I have not eaten it. The large-leafed spinach plants grow as a bush for about forty days and then spread like a vine. Then, apart from growing as a spinach vine, a support trellis is also prepared. In this method, by cutting the immature stems from time to time, more harvests can be obtained. I also made a trellis with the help of wooden sticks and now it is growing well. In addition, three more spinach plants have been planted in three locations, and they are also starting to grow. I have removed some of the larger leaves for our home consumption. Spinach requires a well-drained location for cultivation.
These days, the cultivation of bitter gourd in our garden is expanding better. There are several bitter gourd vines in the garden, and only one of them has lost its leaves due to an insect infestation and the plant has died. Last Sunday, I also removed some fresh bitter gourd fruits, and made a delicious and nutritious bitter gourd moju from it and published its contents. I hope to present another delicious bitter gourd content this week. As soon as the yellow flowers appear and the pods become small, they can be covered with perforated polythene sheets at the bottom to prevent insect infestation and also obtain a large harvest. Although it is more bitter in taste, bitter gourd is my favorite vegetable among the vegetables. Therefore, I have planted more bitter gourd plants in the garden, and there is no need to buy them from the market.
My wife planted cucumber seeds in a small part of our garden some time ago. After the seeds sprouted and emerged slightly above the ground, I dug holes in several places in the garden and planted cucumber plants using compost fertilizer, and now some of them are growing as vines. After the yellow flowers appear, they slowly produce small pods. As the cucumber plants grow, we need to provide support for them to grow as vines. Currently, only a few small stakes have been planted, and as more vines spread, I will add more supports.
Like in my mother-in-law's garden, the turkey berry cultivation is now spreading very well and yielding a harvest. Although the turkey berry plants face some obstacles in their growth during the early stages of growth, their spread is not difficult once they have grown to a certain extent. The problems caused by insects on the leaves and stems of the turkey berry plant increase. After the flowers appear on the tree, the turkey berries emerge in clusters. It should be noted that the turkey berry is a beautiful creation of nature because the entire plant is green.
Two varieties of potatoes, known as Manioc and Gahala, have also been planted in our garden. The fruits of the two Gahala trees may have already been released. Since there are potatoes underground, it is impossible to see them without digging. It can only be guessed based on cultivation experience. I will probably give an update on the garden next Sunday if the two trees in question emerge from the ground.
Since these plants are planted in a small area of the garden, the small plants do not receive proper sunlight due to the shade of other plants. Sunlight is an essential factor for the growth of plants. Although the eggplant plant is quite large, it did not flower due to the lack of sunlight. Therefore, the eggplant plant grows by leaning to the side in search of sunlight. Due to the heavy rain that fell last week, several green chili plants that I planted were destroyed and very few were saved. With proper care, those plants should also be prepared in a way that they produce good fruit.
Several tomato plants planted about two weeks ago were also destroyed by the rain. The largest tomato plant had flowers that were ready to produce a harvest, but the rain also caused the flowers to fall. Since tomato plants are very light, it is essential to use supports. We will see how the cultivation progresses next week.
