Hello my fellow garden lovers,
What's up all? I honestly hope you are doing very well. I'm back to this interesting garden community for update my recent gardening details to Hive blockchain. Gardening is a one of most interesting activity that I have skills and some knowledge about it because I had trained practical level in agriculture center. Although I had a keen interest in farming since childhood, my preference was to grow flowers. Accordingly, by the age of 10, various types of flowers such as roses, orchids, and carnations had spread in our garden. However, as I grew older, my focus shifted to vegetable and fruit cultivation. Since pest infestations occur frequently in crop cultivation, and in order to obtain a successful harvest during cultivation, I needed to gain some knowledge. Accordingly, I applied to the nearest agricultural center and gained practical experience. Although I gained the necessary knowledge, I gradually moved away from farming activities because I was working in the capital at that time. Although I got a job again in the area where I live, I did not pay much attention to crop cultivation because I was accustomed to being lazy. However, as time passed, I rejoined my interesting activity with the intention of turning this time into a productive garden.
Tomatoes are a vegetable that can be added to any dish rich in vitamin C. Tomatoes can be added raw to a salad or sambol to make a delicious dish without losing their nutritional value. We have planted tomato seeds in our garden several times in the past and propagated the plants, but we could not get a successful harvest. A tomato plant produced only a maximum of three fruits and they fell off before they grew big. The reason for this was that insects known as mealybugs came and settled a white fungus on the tomato leaves and undersides. Then the leaves turned a light yellow color, the leaves shrank, and the plant's growth slowed down. Then a successful harvest was not obtained.
For about six months now, I have been focusing on gardening and have been using my theoretical and practical experience to improve tomato cultivation. By constantly increasing the water pressure and spraying water on the tomato leaves with a hose, the white fungus that collects mealybugs is eliminated. However, this should be done at least twice a day. Although soap suds can also control mealybugs, spraying the leaves during flowering may reduce the growth of the fruits. This time, I planted the tomato plants close together and today the plants are spreading their branches and struggling to get sunlight. Small yellow flowers bloom from those branches and release tomato fruits. The use of compost fertilizer mixed with cow dung along with constant care has helped in the successful growth of these plants.
The few bitter gourd vines that grew in our garden since early April have been producing a good harvest for home consumption until last week. Therefore, we did not need to buy gourds from the market. Instead, we obtained fresh and healthy bitter gourds from our garden. Before the old vines died, I planted bitter gourd seeds in different places to get a successful gourd cultivation again. Accordingly, bitter gourd vines have started growing in three places now. It is not a problem that these small plants grow close together because the vines go to different places as they grow higher. This time, the bitter gourd plants were more threatened by snails than last time. They were coming to eat the gourd leaves as well as the plants, and as I saw, the plants were safe. However, to prevent the snails from coming to the plants along the ground, several small pieces of wood were covered around them in the traditional way.
Despite having some knowledge, the green chili plants planted by me did not grow successfully. I was very sad about that. But the chili plants planted by my mother never failed. Those plants yielded a lot of fruit. I saw the reason for the failure of my chili cultivation as not using the right composition during planting. Accordingly, the implementation according to theoretical knowledge is now transforming into success. If the green chilies are protected from insect infestation and given proper care, good green chili fruits can be obtained. I am happy to see how all the three green chili plants I planted are now growing healthily.
Cucumber is a cold-hardy vegetable and is more important in hot weather. About a month ago, cucumber seeds were planted. The seeds turn into plants and grow upwards as vines. These plants are also more susceptible to snails. Although several cucumber vines grew, the yield was low. When the cucumbers themselves turn yellow and the fruit grows small, covering them with a polythene sheet can minimize the threat of insects.
A previously formed okra pod in our garden was left to dry and the mature seeds were placed in a nursery. Since they grew close together, several plants were taken to another place because having okra plants close together would not be beneficial. Unfortunately, only seven plants were destroyed, while the other four plants are growing well with my care. A bountiful harvest is expected from these few okra plants in the future.
I had previously bought spinach from the market, which is rich in iron and has a liquid texture. Spinach can be eaten deliciously with lentils, and there are several other delicious ways to prepare it. The spinach branches I bought from the market are now growing well in the garden by planting three pieces of spinach in three places and adding cow dung. I have planted wooden blocks and made a frame to allow the spinach vines to spread. To increase the growth of spinach, the parts that form seeds should be removed. The spinach leaves were also attacked by snails.
Long beans are also a highly nutritious vegetable. I recently planted about ten long bean vines on dry wood with branches to spread upwards as a support. This will make it easier for the long beans, which produce a harvest in the form of pods. The long bean pods can also be expected to grow more by being higher than the ground. Also, pods have already sprouted on one vine.
Actually, there is one thing that I should mention to you. That is, I have not planted a single capsicum plant in this farming life, and I would love to see a good harvest. Since I have seen the harvest of capsicum plants in many farms in clusters, I planted capsicum seeds for the very first time three weeks ago, hoping for such a fruit. Only a few plants grew from those seeds and about five plants were destroyed. For the other small plants, I also add organic fertilizer and take proper care for my purpose. I make a lot of sacrifices for this crop in the morning and evening, because my wife also has no rest.
