Cassava is plant with wide discussion, many usages. Let’s take a walk.
Welcome to my farm.
Note: All images used are mine and originally taken from my cassava farming activities.
I started planting cassavas long time ago with my dad, it formed part of our diet in those days. When i was a kid, I thought that cassava was just for human consumption; I didn’t know that this plant is filled with many economic importance.
Now that my dad is late, I cherish those memories and the times we spent together farming our land.
Because of my early exposure to gardening and farming in general, it has become a hobby for me.
I’ll take some times to share with you things that I’ve discovered about cassava plant. In every farming season, I produce up to 30 tons of cassava tubas.
My farm is unique in my community because of extra efforts that I put in taking care of my plants. I do not apply fertilizers to my cassava farm; I prefer using compost manure instead. Using fertilizers makes cassava to go rotten inside the ground before harvest time, besides, making compost manure is free and cheap. Maybe we can talk about that in one of our discussions.
Some allows their cassava for two years before harvesting them, but I harvest mine in 6 months, and some in 1 year depending on the specie. I have some of the best species in my farm.
In my coming posts, I’ll go further in explaining to you what I do with all those cassavas produced in my farm. Obviously, i do not eat all of them, it’s a raw material that can be applied to many other products.
Thanks for reading. I’ll be back shortly.
