How are you all I hope you are all very well I am also very well with your prayers and the grace of Almighty Allah.I'm a new member of the @HiveGarden community. As a new member, today I am planting vegetables in the Saudi desert with you. A story of hard work and success.I think you will like it very much. Let's start then.
Saudi Arabia is a desert country. Where it is very difficult to grow vegetables. Cultivation is not easy here due to extreme heat and low rainfall. However, it is possible to produce vegetables in the desert with proper planning and modern technology. Due to the high temperature in Saudi Arabia, growing vegetables in the open can cause the plants to die or the leaves to dry up. So our garden uses netting around and above for shade. It protects the plant from excessive heat from the sun. and helps retain moisture. As a result, plants grow well and vegetable production also increases.Water supply is crucial for farming in deserts. We water regularly four to five times a day. So that the soil does not dry out and the plants get enough nutrients. It is possible to effectively take care of plants by reducing water wastage through modern irrigation systems.
We face some major challenges when farming in the desert. The daytime temperature in Saudi Arabia is 40 to 50 degrees Celsius. If the tree is planted in the open during such time, the tree may dry up and die.
Rainfall is very low here. So naturally there is no suitable environment for cultivation. We have to depend on ground water. Which is very costly.
The soil in the desert is mostly sandy and barren, so there are no nutrients for cultivation. This requires us to add additional organic fertilizers and other inputs.
Sandstorms can disrupt plant growth. And direct sunlight in the open can be harmful to the plant.
Here's what we need to do to sustain the vegetables in our garden.
In the beginning we used to water five times. Now we water it three to four times. We mainly use drip irrigation system which consumes less water and reaches the root of the plant directly.
We know that too much sun can be harmful to plants. So we have arranged shade all around the garden. Using a net jar made it possible to keep the plant somewhat cooler.
We try to add organic matter, manure, compost and other ingredients to the plant soil to increase its fertility. This increases the water holding capacity of the soil. And the tree grows fast.
An expatriate friend of mine is turning the soil with his hand shovel. So that it becomes softer. And plant roots can easily expand. Such labor improves the aeration of the soil and makes it suitable for cultivation.
Due to our tireless work in our vegetable garden, we have grown a variety of vegetables like tomatoes, green chillies, red greens, garlic, onions, spinach, brinjal, mustard greens, radish greens and radishes etc. in this small garden. We got to see smiling faces at the end of the day when we said we worked tirelessly. It is because of this tireless work that we are able to grow crops today. What was once dusty and dry is now green.
It is not just a garden for us, but a place of peace and joy. Spending some time here after work breaks away the fatigue.
