Hello, Hive Gardeners! 👨🌾
This is my third post this year in the Hive Garden community. The last one was over a month ago, when we planted potatoes.
A lot has changed since then, so it's time to update.
Now, there is something to see. The vegetation is quite lush despite the dry conditions. I have a lot of photos but not so much text :)
I'll start with the potatoes because we planted them in the last post.
The photo below was taken three weeks ago.
And this past week. As you can see, I have also added bean poles on the right.
A permaculture experiment. On the left are peas, which have started to come up, and in the middle are potatoes, which I find fascinating because we didn't plant them here; they grew on their own from the peelings, as we had created a layer with organic waste that included potato peelings. And it sprouted. I am just wondering how big the tubers will be.
On the right-hand side is the cabbage, which is struggling with snails and other parasites.
The strawberries are fine, we have put straw on the ground and they seem to like it.
My wife and I also planted about 20 tomato plants, some under shelter and some without. Last year, we had fewer, but it was not a good crop, so hopefully, this year will be better.
Also, some peppers and eggplants, which until recently were under a veil.
The first radishes, which we usually eat raw in a salad, are pretty spicy :)
These are courgettes, and there is straw on the ground below.
I have also put up quite a few poles for the beans that are coming up, and some of them have already emerged from the ground.
Some beetroot. We planted quite a lot, it should be bigger, maybe it will grow some more.
And finally, pumpkins :)
I didn't "officially" enter the Hive Pumpkin World Championship organized by @der-prophet and @hive-world-champ, but I planted five pumpkin seedlings. Last year was more of a poor harvest, mainly due to weeds.
But this year, my wife and I tried something new: we planted pumpkins in the veil; we hope it will be better than last year.
Thanks for your attention!
