It has been so warm this week with sunny days and now rainy ones too. I took a little walk around the yard to check out the gardens. I grabbed the camera and took a few shots of what was still growing.
The above photo is a pot of turnip greens that are still very much alive to my surprise. I had my husband help me carry the heavy container into the greenhouse. I wonder if they will continue to grow enough to form a bulb. We shall see!
I bunch of Endive is still hanging on even this late in the year. I won't eat it though as I imagine it would be very bitter by now.
I am still seeing some young leaves emerging from the Swiss Chard too. If the winter weather holds off, I will be able to pick a few leaves for my salad this week.
I have many European Ginger plants in some shade gardens and they all look like they do first thing in the spring. I wonder if we will get a hard winter after all, but mind you I am not complaining about the lack of snow, lol.
Some Rosemary plants were still doing well since a lot of mulch was surrounding them. I decided to cut some of the tips and try to root them with a hormone powder.
I trimmed off the lower leaves and dipped them in the powder before placing them into the pot.
Once I was finished I put the whole pot into a large ziplock bag to preserve the moisture. It will be their mini greenhouse while they take root. It is worth a try, I usually start Rosemary from seed, perhaps this year I won't have to.
I spent the rest of the day going through all the seed catalogs and finally decided on some new varieties to try this year.
Also, I made a list of all the seeds I had saved from my gardens this year. I was inspired by @goldenoakfarm to be better organized with my plans for what I will grow and where. It was a good thing I did as I almost ordered seeds I did not need. It is too hard to remember what I already have on hand, so this made it so much easier. I actually put the seeds together by what week I will need to get them started. Who would have thought I would ever be so prepared.
Until next time, this is Sunscape
