Today I bring for you some recommendations and data that can be useful for two things on the one hand to nourish the soil where are those beautiful flowering plants called Desert Flower whose scientific name is Abenium Obesum. This is a strong plant that manages to overcome extreme heat temperatures, its care is not rigorous as it seems, they can live well in pots or directly in the ground.

One of the concerns of all of us who have these plants is precisely to make it grow healthy, that it blooms and that it does not get infected with any pest. In my case, I have several and there was a time when they did not grow and if any twig came out they died within a few days. At that time I used the coffee grounds, that is to say, what is left after straining it (either in a coffee pot or in a mesh) to prepare the fertilizer for fruit plants, but I had never thought of using it for flower plants.

In those days my brother-in-law came to visit the house, he has plants of this type like me and he told me, your desert flowers are sick, look at the branches are filling with a very small layer that looks like cotton, but in reality it is a type of pest. The pest known as cottony mealybug, when it starts on plants is almost unnoticeable if you don't have a good eye and attention during watering and care.

In the case of my desert flowers that were just starting, my brother-in-law was the one who gave me the recipe to try coffee grounds to heal them and improve their appearance. The use is quite simple and the improvement is noticeable from the first week. How to use it on desert flowers, or at least what worked for me:

Step 1. Make coffee and enjoy a good cup. Once all the coffee has been brewed we wait for the grounds to cool completely, after that the amount we have we put it in a cup or watering can and add water, depending on the amount of coffee we have just enough to make it liquid and not thick or lumpy, so we can water the plant easily.

Step 2. Water the plant with the coffee grounds water, let's do it very well so that each of the branches gets wet and the soil.

Step 3 Repeat the operation every three days until we begin to see improvements in the plant. We will notice that it will begin to take again its healthy green color and will begin to fill with life.

Once the plant is healthy we can use this mixture once or twice a month, but directly in the soil, mixing the coffee grounds with the compost, this provides nutrients to the soil that go directly to the plant and in this way we are contributing to the environment by not dirtying or wasting any of the benefits that come to us from mother earth. This recipe has worked very well for me, I recognize that I am not an agronomist, I am just passionate about nature and its care.
