Meet Slynath the portalmancer. They're a their that can make portals from shadow and light, and can get into, and out of anywhere that has even a little shadow. (meaning there needs to be a little light).
If you manage to ask them how they gained their ability, or what they are, they'll give one of any number of lies. They were the child of a witch and a shadow demon. They were given to fae as payment and this is what growing up in the fae realm does to a human. They were experimented on by unethical wizards during their childhood. Their mother was an adventurer and was almost killed by a shadow dragon while pregnant. And more.
They'll steal from anyone as long as they're rich, but they won't kill.
And now for the drawing progress.
So for the first step I looked up some refrences for fun poses. My go to place for this is https://www.adorkastock.com/sketch/ it goes through a huge amount of different poses etc.
I did a few different composition and post compositions.
I ended up doing a bit of a play of two of them since I really liked the pose of bottom left but the angular composition of the two on the right.
Compostion settled on it was onto the drawing board.
Then I get to play some dress up. I ended up skipping the hair. Extended the bottom leg.(which might not be right. Anatomy isn't easy)
Then I move onto more solid detail.
I then moved onto line work.
Then I filled in the space for the next part.
From here I did a break down of values for the different parts I find this helps me get a good composition for the final work.
Then I got to work on the colour, which I ended up doing based on the aurora borealis.
Then some shading and tweaking the background a bit.
