I should start with an explanation! I've been absent. Short version. I decided to take an internet break. Besides a little trading, I haven't been on the internet for much of anything besides a random presearch here or there. The other reason is I haven't had much to write about. Things have been pretty boring and mundane. No trips, no wild adventures, perhaps more on that in a future post.
With that said, I finally decided to get off my lazy behind and get out for a ride. The weather was a bit cold, but I've started shopping for the holiday's. I thought a trip to the local cider mill was in order. Besides being awfully cold, the sun was out and felt like a nice day for a putt on the motorcycle.
The Mayor Bros Cider Mill has been around since the 1800s. It's one of those old timey places that have withstood the test of time. You can still get homemade pies, fudges, jam, and freshly pressed apple cider. Although, the rest of the operation is massive. There's actually a decent sized factory and a huge yard full of trucks just around the corner from this place.
We haven't had a lot of sun. It's been cold and rainy. This was a great day to get out for a ride. I enjoy riding as long as the temperature is above 40. Once you get down into the 30s though, it's just not enjoyable IMHO.
I took the highway there, it got a bit nipply on the highway. I took slower back roads home. The Cider Mill is about 30 minutes outside the city. About 45 minutes if you take the backroads.
I love places like this and they're so few now. Homemade pies, donuts, fresh pressed cider, fudge. All freshly made! SOOOOO GOOOOD!
Looks like I wasn't the only one with this idea. The place was packed. They're still decorated for Halloween. This is a huge time of the year for them.
I picked up some Raspberry Jam and Boysenberry Preserves, along with a bottle of Sweet Apple cider. I was hoping they had hard cider but I didn't see any. I think I heard they stopped making it and focus strictly on sweet cider and apple juice now. Regardless, the stuff is delicious!
You can see the stacks of fudge in front of me. The walls are stacked with all kinds of jams jellies and preserves. I haven't been here in a really long time, but it's just how I remember it.
I opened the cider as soon as I got home. The jams and preserves I'll save for Christmas morning! Nothing like some fresh locally made jam on Christmas morning!
It was a fun afternoon adventure. I'm glad I went. I'll post a little more about my being absent from here. There just wasn't anything going on. I have been stopping by some of my favorite blogs though from time to time and commenting here and there. With the colder weather here, I'll be spending a lot more time writing and checking out social media on Hive.
Excuse the typos, company came and my spellcheck is glitchy today.
