I grew up with the knowledge that quality is better than quantity. My mum taught me this when I was very young. I also learnt from my sister who was always praised for having good eyes for clothes, shoes or even toys. So I emulated her to pursue quality even if it's one, rather than quantity which all of it usually ends up not making sense at all. At the end, the excitement I had while stuffing them into my shopping bag always turned into disappointment.
I have had several experiences with entrepreneurs who think of themselves before their customers, and they're all related to the topic of this initiative: Do we put quality first in our business? Or have we experienced quality treatment that gives us maximum satisfaction irrespective of the price?
My first experience was with a hairdresser in the rural area. I was on vacation and I needed to make a simple cornrows that could keep me neat until I return back to the city. This hairdresser knows my parents and thought that I am rich. She looked at my iPhone and told me three times the price I have ever paid for cornrows. I negotiated the price with her, and she began making the hair. Throughout the process, this woman did not smile or talk to me kindly. She told her friend in our native language that I'm stingy with money; I pretended like I didn't understand what she said. After she was done, I liked the hair, but I hated the way she treated me. That was the first and last time I patronized her.
I've also had a premium experience where I was deeply valued and cared for. The ambiance was peaceful, and the workers were very friendly. I chose a style for my braids, and the stylist delivered it perfectly. At the end of the day, I was very satisfied and happy with my new look. I was excited to refer people to her salon, and she, on the other hand, gave me a discount on my next visit.
As an entrepreneur, the sole aim of any product or service is customer satisfaction. If an entrepreneur fails to achieve this aim, he/she will likely not thrive. If you look closely, you'll notice that even when customers have little money, they always want to get the best out of it. So quality first, before profit. No one wants to spend a dime on an item that won't fulfill its purpose. Customer feelings are also an important part of quality, so it mustn't be ignored.
A personal experience I had as an entrepreneur was while partnering with a friend for jewelry importation from China. We had ordered jewelry and facial care products. It happened that I tried on one of the sets of jewelry, and it faded within a week. This was before we could sell them out to customers. I couldn't continue with the sales because I knew my customers would not like the quality, no matter how cheap the price is. However, I gave some out to friends and my cousins and sold some to those who said they don't mind the quality since I reduced the price to a cent. It was a great loss to me, but I earned loyalty and trust from my customers who knew about it.
So, as we strive for success in our businesses, let's remember that quality is not just about the product or service; it's about the experience we create for our customers. By prioritizing quality and customer satisfaction, we can build trust, loyalty, and a reputation that drives long-term success.
However, this shouldn’t be at our own detriment. If we offer quality products and services, yet a client is unwilling to pay for them, it’s important to communicate the value clearly and confidently. This doesn’t always mean long explanations, personally, I’m not one to explain my decisions too much. Instead, I prefer to communicate value visually and experientially through a well-presented price list featuring original photos of my work, a cozy and welcoming environment, professional conduct, and consistent excellence. These subtle cues often speak louder than words, helping clients understand what they’re paying for and make informed decisions without the need to beg them. Afterall, when you stay true to your standard the right people will always see and appreciate the worth.

Creo que como emprendedores, a todos nos han enseñado que la calidad es clave para construir una base de clientes leales. Pero, ¿cuántas veces priorizamos los beneficios sobre la calidad? En esta niciativa propuesta por @miriannalis, me encantaría compartir mis experiencias personales y puntos de vista sobre la importancia de la calidad en los negocios.
Crecí sabiendo que la calidad es mejor que la cantidad. Mi madre me lo enseñó cuando era muy pequeña. También aprendí de mi hermana, a la que siempre elogiaban por tener buen ojo para la ropa, los zapatos o incluso los juguetes. Así que la emulé para perseguir la calidad, aunque sea una, en lugar de la cantidad, que suele acabar por no tener ningún sentido. Al final, la ilusión que tenía al meterlos en mi bolsa de la compra siempre se convertía en decepción.
He tenido varias experiencias con empresarios que piensan en sí mismos antes que en sus clientes, y todas están relacionadas con el tema de esta iniciativa: ¿Ponemos la calidad en primer lugar en nuestro negocio? ¿O hemos experimentado un trato de calidad que nos proporcione la máxima satisfacción independientemente del precio?.

Nadie quiere gastarse un céntimo en un artículo que no va a cumplir su propósito. Los sentimientos de los clientes también son una parte importante de la calidad, así que no hay que ignorarla.
Una experiencia personal que tuve como empresario fue cuando me asocié con un amigo para importar joyas de China. Habíamos encargado joyas y productos de cuidado facial. Esto no siempre significa largas explicaciones, personalmente, no soy de explicar demasiado mis decisiones. En su lugar, prefiero comunicar el valor visual y experiencialmente a través de una lista de precios bien presentada que incluya fotos originales de mi trabajo, un ambiente acogedor, una conducta profesional y una excelencia constante. Estas sutiles señales suelen ser más elocuentes que las palabras, ya que ayudan a los clientes a entender lo que están pagando y a tomar decisiones informadas sin necesidad de rogarles. Al fin y al cabo, cuando te mantienes fiel a tus estándares, las personas adecuadas siempre verán y apreciarán lo que vales.
