I have always wanted to start a new business - one totally different from my previous ventures. Despite many attempts to save for this purpose, family responsibilities and the rising cost of living have always thwarted my plans. As a father of 5 children all in school, my savings are stretched thin. Monthly household bills dig deep holes in my pocket. This cycle of bills forced me to put my business plans on hold until I get funding through loans or from friends.
About 15 years ago I attended a business seminar that changed my life. The training was on how to write business proposals for financial institutions. Life teaches us that we never appreciate knowledge until we need it. This training prepared me for the business proposal that would eventually fund my business.
I never actively looked for business loans from financial institutions but I was open to it. My initial plan was to save throughout the year and by December I would have enough to launch no matter the scale. But this plan had only 50% chance of success. Life's uncertainties and my family's needs took precedence and almost forced me to abandon the business plan altogether - until recent events changed everything.
My journey on the Hive platform exposed me to different communities and individuals from various backgrounds and perspectives. This digital space showed me the power of transparency and authenticity. Although many users hide behind avatars, some moments demand genuine openness and connection with others.
This realization led to an opportunity to be a guest author for the DUO project on Hive. This role allowed me to share my story and challenges with the community - not to ask for help but to get perspectives and encouragement.
The experience shattered my perception of finding real support on the HIVE platform. The DUO team's interest in my business proposal which I shared in a guest post felt surreal. After reviewing my plans we agreed on the funding - a unique loan arrangement with no interest and no monthly payments. Instead the loan will be repaid from my guest post earnings.
This system eliminates the pressure on myself and the new business. Without strict time constraints the loan repayment will follow the Hive platform and DUO project's operation, it's very flexible.
Moreover, having this business will enable me to grow my Hive power as I will not be having much need to sell my HIVE earnings, but would rather keep them powered up. It will also enable me to invest in some of the Hive's projects I have been keen on, especially the DUO project.
The approved funding is 400 HBD. While small by global standards it's enough for a determined person to start something in my local context. Now that I have the funding, business implementation will move fast. Shop rental negotiations will be done this week and renovations and product procurement next week. Assuming nothing goes wrong, the business will start by the 3rd week of June.
This business will be dedicated to the DUO team and Hive platform. It shows how blockchain can fight poverty with honesty and openness. Thank you DUO project, Hive and all the community members who made this possible.
