Hello, Hivers! Today’s article is about our daily journey from home to the workplace. I’d love to take you along the roads we travel to work, allowing you to see the world through a commuter’s lens and appreciate the wonders of our daily path.
Get ready—this journey isn't just about roads, buildings, and backstreets. It’s about the unseen stories of struggles and giggles along the way.
As we start the day, our top priority is ensuring our kids are ready for school, while my youngest is safely left with his grandmother, who lovingly takes on the role of his babysitter.
When all is set, we now prepare to go to work. Then our one-hour travel begins from Pilar, Sorsogon to Legazpi City, Albay.
ROADS AND GREEN VIEW
Most of the views we see are the green nature more on rice fields, trees, typical houses and how a simple family routine goes by the day. We also see students and working individuals riding on public vehicles like jeepneys and buses, tricycles and motorcycles like us.
Seeing this kind of scenario only means that people have various dreams to chase, and each day is a step forward.
CONVERSATIONS ON WHEELS
As the motorcycle hums along the road, the real journey begins—not just the physical one, but the conversations between me and my husband. This is our “us time” squeezed into the daily grind. With the wind brushing against our faces and the familiar curves of the road guiding us forward, we talk about everything under the sun.
Sometimes, we laugh over funny antics our kids did the night before—like the changes in the behavior of our youngest one, from his gestures down to the new words he starts to mumble. Also, our eldest son has started showing interest in things that seem unusual to us—a natural part of his journey through adolescence. Other times, our conversations turn serious as we talk about bills, school expenses, and how to manage our never-ending debts. We also often reflect on how we can extend help to our relatives in the best way we can.
But my favorite part? When we talk about dreams.
There’s something magical about dreaming out loud while the world passes by. It’s like we trust that God, along with the energy surrounding us, will work together to help us achieve our dreams. We imagine a small business we could build together one day, a future family trip where we finally visit a place we’ve only seen in YouTube vlogs, or maybe even a dream house with a garden where we can plant vegetables and the kids could run around freely. Those talks turn a bumpy ride into a beautiful adventure, reminding us why we work so hard in the first place.
THE UNEXPECTED SCENES
Of course, no trip is ever the same. Along the way, there are always surprises. Sometimes, it’s a newly opened store selling local delicacies we want to try on the weekend. Other times, we pass by farmers tending their fields, reminding us how life in the province is deeply rooted in hard work.
There are funny moments too—like the time a flock of ducks decided to cross the road, causing a mini traffic jam as everyone patiently waited for their slow parade to finish. There was once that we thought it was a big rock, but surprisingly, it was a turtle. My husband wanted to bring it home, but I told him it could live freely if we let it be in the wild. Or the time my husband had to maneuver carefully to avoid a sudden pothole that appeared after a heavy rain, making us both laugh nervously.
THE UNSEEN STRUGGLES
The uneven pavements, the occasional traffic, and the unpredictable weather are all part of the deal. Some days, the sun is gentle, giving us a scenic and peaceful ride. On other days, we battle against sudden downpours, clinging to our raincoats while trying not to get completely soaked.
But these struggles, minor or major, always feel lighter when you have someone beside you, sharing both the silence and the stories. And every time we safely arrive at work, there’s this quiet sense of victory—as if saying, “We made it through another ride, another day closer to our dreams.” And my unceasing prayer says, “Lord, keep us safe and secure, spare our lives for our family.”
THE BEAUTY IN THE ROUTINE
You see, our daily travel isn’t just about getting from point A to point B. It’s a collection of tiny moments—some funny, some challenging, some heartwarming—all stitched together to create our own story.
It’s proof that even the most ordinary days can be extraordinary when you learn to see the beauty in between the miles. Whether it’s the stunning sunrise over the rice fields, the smell of freshly cooked breakfast wafting from roadside houses, or the comfort of knowing that no matter how tough the day ahead might be, at least we started it together.
TO ALL FELLOW ROAD WARRIORS
If you, like us, travel daily to chase dreams and provide for your family, I hope you also take a moment to appreciate the road itself—not just the destination. Because sometimes, the best stories aren’t found when you arrive, but in the in-between, while the wheels are still turning.
Keep grinding! We will soon reach our deserved destination!
