Today's post is my entry to Asean Hive Community Challenge #26 with the theme Pay It Forward. The challenge is inspired by a movie with the same name, Pay It Forward, and starred the famous child actor of that era - Haley Joel Osment. Have you watched that movie? I did and loved it because I was a fan of Osment when he starred as Forrest Gump's son, in Forrest Gump. And, of course, I have watched his other movies, including The Sixth Sense, A.I, and Home of The Giants.
Anyway, the challenge is not to talk about Osment but to dedicate 100% reward of this post to other Asean Hivers, with a maximum of up to 8 different beneficiaries. It sorts of gifting them my reward as a form of encouragement.
I selected several potential beneficiaries, but I couldn't include two because they had designated me as one of their beneficiaries in their respective entries. So I had to choose other Asean Hivers, and I picked four awesome Hivers:
- @chuch - I truly enjoyed her posts about paddy harvesting
- @shikika - I loved reading her posts about reunion with her ex-schoolmates
- @yulia-hive & @alvonzo - hardworking husband and wife team. He works on a manual labor job and also hustles on Hive. She posts about her yummy recipes.
I picked 4, so each one has a bigger reward percentage instead of spreading it across 8 people (max).
❤️ Today Is "Hari Akademik" or The Report Card Day ❤️
Today is Hari Akademik (Academic Day), better known worldwide as Report Card Day (RCD), at my kids' school. I found this funny joke on the Internet, and I think the reactions are pretty accurate.
Asian kid: Mom... here's my report card
Asian Mom: An A-!!!! You have got to do better!!
White Kid: Oh crap, it's report card day! Here it is...
White parent: Aww, you got a C in History. Try to do better next time, honey.
Black kid: Mom, before I show you my report card, promise me you won't go crazy... AHHHHHH!!!!! MOMMA NO!!!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I don't know how RCD is conducted elsewhere, but in Malaysia, parents were given an official memo several days beforehand. Parents were told to come to school to have a brief discussion with their kid's class/homeroom teacher. Anything related to the child's academic may be discussed during that period. The child's report card or an academic progress report is also given to the parents.
Parents were told to come to school anytime between 8.30-11.30am. I knew it would be hard to find a parking spot if I were to go early, so I arrived at 9.30am. The school compound and the roadside were packed with cars, but I managed to snatch a nice spot to park my car. I planned to go to my son's classroom before going to my daughter's.
Most of the parents in my son's class already had their turn and left for the day. I was relieved that I didn't have to wait long for my turn.
However, it was entirely different in my daughter's class. Many parents were still waiting for their turn when I reached her classroom. One mother took her own sweet time and had a whopping 20 minutes of discussion with the teacher. How selfish and inconsiderate 😡. That prompted me to write a note in the parents' chat group to remind the teacher and all parents to be considerate of others and limit their discussion to 5 minutes.
So how was their academic report? It was satisfactory, but there is still room for improvement, especially in Maths, English, and Arabic.
Here are some pictures taken at the school.
The discussion finished around 11.45am, and we went to Lotus's Hypermarket for lunch. There weren't many food choices the kids could eat besides junk food. The rest of the menu was mostly spicy food, and my kids couldn't take spicy stuff. And I had "nasi lele penyet" (fried catfish & rice). It was too salty for my taste so I didn't finish it.
After lunch, we went to a pet store located within Lotus's. The kids were excited to see a tomcat, a tabby, and her kitten were up for sale. We love cats, but unfortunately, my son has allergies, so we can't keep one.
Cute, cute kitties!! 😻😻😻
