I start to feel like I am always complaining but that isn't because this particular thing affects my life, it doesn't, at all. I am just disappointed because there was a real opportunity here to improve the area and make it more beautiful for all, including the massive amount of tourists that are in this part of the city.
But once again, somebody in a position of power went on to use the wrong materials, again, and even though these things have only been around for about a year, they are already unusable pieces of crap that are just getting in the way of the footpath.
You might be asking "what is that?" and that would be a very good question because as of now, it is nothing. A year ago it was a stone or marble sign of sorts that detailed the area that you are in and attempted to showcase the "walking street" area that has been a complete failure. All of the notions surrounding the walking street have been abandoned as they realized that by cutting off the streets to traffic they were in fact cutting off the businesses on these streets from being able to receive essential deliveries that are necessary for them to continue to operate as a business. So almost immediately the restrictions on traffic were lifted, and the nice looking cobblestone streets are already starting to deteriorate from being both improperly installed as well as being driven on by vehicles much heavier than they were designed for even if they had been installed properly.
The sun and heat has completely destroyed what was written on the, I think it is copper, space that at one point described the walking streets to anyone that came to this part of town. Now it is just a big, ugly, and heavy obelisk of sorts that simply blocks a large portion of the sidewalk.
This one is right next to a miniature park that is sporadically maintained and I just happened upon it on a good day. This is prime real-estate as well and I think it is only a matter of time before the construction cranes move in and turn this into another gigantic concrete monstrosity opposite the beach.
I really don't understand what is going through the minds of the officials that plan these things I mean, certainly they have someone up there that can tell them what materials are capable of withstanding the sun and salty air of the beach, don't they? Do they just not talk to these people? I simply don't understand how almost anything that is built by the municipality ends up falling apart in such a short period of time.
I would really like to see some beautification of the beach walk area but every time they take a step forward it seems like it is real nice just long enough for some politicians to get their photos taken, then everyone just walks away from it and doesn't pay any attention to whether or not it can be useful, or if it is even going to last.
It's upsetting and as time passes I have grown kind of numb to these sorts of things. I am also jaded because anytime that almost anything new is being built I can already see the future and know that it is going to fail because almost everything does.
It's a real shame because I would rather see that money spent on trash bins or cleanup services because that would be money well spent and it would be impossible to screw it up. No matter how nice the garden or sign is, if it is surrounded by plastic wrappers and bottles, it isn't going to look good for long.
