I've named it the art park. There is no official designation for it to be a tourist attraction but since the pieces are all pretty good and in highly visible areas it does seems as though this was allowed by the property owners. If there was some sort of movement to turn this area into an artsy neighborhood I like it, but it doesn't appear to have really gotten a great deal of attention thus far.
I hope that can change because the entire neighborhood seems to be "in on it" together and for people like me that appreciate street art, this is a good thing.
This one doesn't look as if it is complete but I like what they have done thus far. You don't often see shadowing on street art so to me, that is a very nice touch. Someone recently asked if any of these pieces had a local flare rooted in Vietnamese culture and this would kind of qualify as that. I agree with what I think they were saying in that it would be nice if some or most of the things featured in this art-park had a sort of Vietnamese flare to them instead of just mimicking the hip-hop nature of street art from NYC.
You can see from this backed out shot how huge this one piece is and how the stenciling indicates that whoever was working on this is not yet finished. However, I wonder if it ever will be completed because there was no sign of any sort of scaffolding. Unfortunately this will probably get covered up by rain marks before it is ever completed. It also is clearly not spray which to me takes away a bit from the overall "street-ness" of it all. But regardless, it is very very good.
In the same area are a few pieces that I tend to not appreciate very much because they are all so similar no matter where you see them. This one property is absolutely covered with these tags so I think perhaps this one property owner went at it on his or her own rather than consulting with the entire village about the overall theme. While I can appreciate the amount of skill that goes into these, I find them just too common and it kind of cheapens the whole thing.
I've seen this sort of work being done and I can appreciate how talented the artists are but at the same time I kind of wonder why they don't turn that into pictures of some sort. I get that the artist wants some sort of recognition but if the piece of art is only your call sign, well what's so special about that? There's a reason why Banksy is the most famous street artist in the world, because for the most part he doesn't even feature his name at all.
Since there rarely is any money in street art, I kind of feel like the people that just tag their name are a bit on the lazy side but at the same time I have zero talent for this sort of thing so maybe I should shut up. :)
This neighborhood seems to be always adding new pieces so I will continue to stop by here to see what is new. As of today the people who are behind this have made no sort of effort to make it an attraction and maybe that is better that it would be more organic. So if you are in Da Nang and want to wander these streets and maybe get a coffee then go to the nearby beach, here is the location
That is a spa location only because the area itself has no name. If you make your way down there it will be no mystery where the street art is, you will be surrounded by it and notice it long before you have actually gotten to it.
