When the crews came by and tore down this eyesore of a building on the beach and there was just an open space there for a time, I was hopeful that perhaps there was sort of reclamation project going on and the city was planning on beautifying the beach are with the addition of some natural space instead of the usual tourist ripoff places that are on the beachfront of nearly everywhere in the world.
I didn't really think that this was going to happen and it took only one day for me to get confirmation that this demolition, is merely to make space for what is bound to be and even bigger monstrosity on the beach, judging by the amount of building materials that are being dropped off.
I had written before that if you are living in a particular part of Vietnam and you wake up one day and there is a large pile of sand somewhere in your neighborhood, you should probably start making plans to move. This means that they are going to be doing a ton of cement work there and while it seems strange to BRING sand to a beach, that is precisely what happened from one day to the next here in Da Nang.
Also, the building on the right, which is called the "Top Sailing Club" despite the fact that there is zero sailing that actually takes place in Da Nang, has been gutted but not torn down. I guess that means they are going to build off of that structure.
So while this does kind of squash my hopes that there was going to be something other than just more cement and building on the natural areas, that is not what is going to happen. There is no other reason for bringing in a gigantic pile of sand other than to use it to mix with mortar and build walls with it.

I get it, people want to make money and people also want to come here but in my mind it seems as though by increasing the amount of buildings that are on the beach to accommodate more people to visit the beach, we are simultaneously destroying what the people come to the beach for. The natural beauty after a while just starts to look like a water park and well if that's what they are going for than just go ahead and build a water park. Water parks are awesome and you can put them anywhere it seems.
I'll keep following this piece of land because it is on my thrice weekly beach walk. I reckon it gets erected in record time because they don't generally muck about down there.
The area that is across the street from this build currently is an abandoned rehabilitation hospital, a parking lot for something that isn't there, and a government building high-rise with a helicopter landing pad that I have never seen (or heard) being used. I would imagine it is only a matter of time before this land becomes something that is getting developed as well because it is the only land on our beachfront that isn't already cemented over.
Tragic! But that is the way of the world that we live in I guess.
