After the almost everyday escape from place to place with the kids, this morning I found Sky and Meztli having coughs and a fever. This is one of the downsides of going out, soaking in the sea, or swimming in pools, and spending hours in the water.
Hello @asean.hive people. I hope everybody is in good health, though we are already into the rainy season, surely coughs and colds will be around. We are also in danger from the new COVID-19 variant and monkeypox seen on television and in our newsfeeds.
I always believe that having a boosted and strong immune system could help fight viruses and bacteria that cause illness. But the question is, how could we boost our immune system?
Anyway, as a mother, I already had a lot of stories about coughs, fever, and colds with my children. There was that cough that caused sleepless nights for both me and my child. There was also a cough that caused the child to throw up all he had in his tummy, and a cough that we need sanitary diapers, as it will cause uncontrolled urination in the child.
The last time Sky had a cough and fever, we spent much on his medications, doctors' fees, nebules for the nebulizer, and more. But I was not settling for the synthetic medicines alone, for I noticed that his cough wasn't going to go away any time soon.
One of the remedies that I did was the one that my mother told me. Using oregano, lemon, and honey as a remedy for a cough. I was not very convinced at first because I was thinking like, perhaps in their time or the 80s or 90s it was effective, but not in 2025. Still, I tried her suggestion, what else can I do? She keeps on calling and talking about her cough remedy and asks me from time to time if I have already given it to the Sky. That stubborn cough of his seemed like it didn't die easily with the medicines the doctors had given to him.
Oregano is widely cultivated in Greece, Italy, Turkey, Spain, the United States, Mexico, Egypt, India, and the tropical countries of Asia for culinary use. So, I assume that most of us here know what an oregano is.
So this is what I did to oregano leaves, lemon, and honey.
First, I washed the oregano leaves and lemon thoroughly. Then, put them in a small bowl and pour warm water, but quickly remove the oregano leaves and pat them dry.
Second, I cut the lemon in half and started to squeeze its juice into a small bowl. After squeezing half of a lemon, I followed by squeezing the oregano leaves.
Third, I put a teaspoon of honey into the oregano lemon mixture and mix it very well.
Lastly, put a tablespoon of the mixture into a small cup and give it to your patient or yourself.
I gave the mixture to Sky every morning before he eats and in the evening before he sleeps. On the second day of taking the remedy, we noticed that his cough became soft and he was not struggling from chest pain every time he coughed. And after five days of making the remedy, his cough was gone.
Here I am again, making the oregano, lemon and honey remedy for these kids to love to soak, but also love to cough. haiiiissssttttt.
You can try this too with yourself or with other family members who have a cough and a cold. Natural remedies are often gentler on the body and come with fewer side effects compared to synthetic medicines. They can support the immune system and overall wellness rather than just suppressing symptoms. Many natural ingredients, like honey or herbs, also provide additional nutrients and antioxidants. While not always a replacement for medical treatment, natural remedies can be effective for mild conditions and preventive care.
