We all have different tastes when it comes to food. Some of us crave something sweet, salty, healthy, or even exotic food. As for me, everything is fine, as long as it tastes good on my palate.
When I think of a “favorite food” it is something I’m always craving or would be happy to eat almost every day, a food that gives me joy and makes me satisfied. I’m not sure if anyone else defines it this way, however, that’s how I see it. So, without further ado, here are three of my favorite foods.

1.Pastil
First, we have Pastil. It’s a Filipino dish that holds a special place in my heart. It’s simple and affordable yet so flavorful. It consists of steamed rice topped with shredded chicken, beef, or fish, often wrapped in a banana leaf. This dish originates from the Maguindanao people and is a popular cheap breakfast meal in Mindanao. Recently, this dish became popular in Quiapo in Manila, and other parts of the Philippines, including in our town.
One of the reasons Pastil became my favorite is that it is affordable. As a student who has a limited daily allowance, I truly appreciate having this quality and affordable food. There’s a stall nearby in our school that sells Pastil for just 35-70 pesos, which makes it my go-to choice during lunch breaks. And trust me, it's not just the price—it’s seriously delicious, too!
2.Fried Chicken
Who doesn’t love fried chicken? Most people surely love it! The golden brown color and the crispy skin? The juicy and tender meat? It’s appetizing.
Whenever I go to Jollibee, I often order their fried chicken. It’s on another level, crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and paired perfectly with steamed rice and gravy.
But I’m not just talking about Jollibee fried chicken. Even at our local market, you’ll find stalls that sell fried chicken. Whenever I’m feeling too lazy to cook, I always buy from those stalls. The flavor? It's unbeatable, especially when you pair it with steamed rice.
3.Barbecue
Lastly, my favorite is barbecue. In the late afternoon, from around 4:00 - 5:00 in the afternoon, you’ll see street vendors selling all kinds of foods skewered on barbeque sticks. These include isaw (chicken intestines), Betamax (chicken blood), Adidas (chicken feet), hotdogs, longganisa, pork barbeque, and even chicken heads.
As I pass by these stalls, the smoky aroma wafts through the air, I can’t help but crave it! The smell of the smoke from the griller is such an appetizing aroma. Sometimes if we go to the night market, barbecue is always my first choice. It has a unique and smoky taste which is perfectly paired with a sour vinegar dip.
We all have our own favorite foods. Sometimes food is more than food, it also reflects our culture and memories. A single dish brings its unique joy and comfort. Food isn't just about the taste, they're about the experiences and the simple pleasure of enjoying something that just feels right. What about you? What are some of your favorite foods?
