Welcome to Paoay, Ilocos Norte!

Braced yourself as I take you to what they called the “Malacañang of the North.”

We are all startled by the history of the Marcoses, one of the most disputed leaders in the Philippines’ history.

The “Malacañang of the North” was constructed in 1997. It is a two-story mansion and 5-hectare property and it became the place of former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr, and their family while they stayed in their hometown.

Here’s some Trivia:
This mansion was a gift from Imelda Marcos for his 60th birthday. When former President Marcos was removed from the power of the presidency, this is one of the many houses that have been surrendered to the government.

After 20 years, the place was given back to the custody of the government of Ilocos Norte and it was restored and became a museum. The government of Ilocos decided to open it to the public.

What is inside the Malacañang of the North?

A nine hours travel from Subic to Ilocos Norte to get to our destination.

Upon entering, you can see a gigantic white gate for security purposes.

An elegant and historical place that will give you a dramatic impression of the museum.

The wall is made up of wood and the flooring is made up of marble.

The enjoyment and love for each other make this photography alive. Each photo signifies Marcose’s proof of living at Ilocos Norte,

This painting of former President Ferdinand Marcos and First Lady Imelda Marcos during their courting stage was restored and placed parallel to each other.

The harp or “ARPA” is a Western-influenced instrument used by the Ilocanos.

A simple woody, antique cabinets, and chandeliers. It creates an image of love, happiness, and history.

Located at the left corner of the house, the bedroom of the 2022 elected President of the Republic of the Philippines “Ferdinand Marcos Jr” childhood days.

For the two daughters, Senator Imee & Ms. Irene’s bedrooms were located at the left corner of the mansion after Bongbong’s room.

At the right corner of the mansion were the living room and dining table for the visitor’s arrival.

You can notice a photo of the Saint Augustine Church known as the Paoay Church.

It was built in the year 1986 and is well known for its Europeans Architecture.

And now, let's take a look at the 2nd floor of the mansion.
It was designed for the meetings of the cabinet during Marcos’s regime.

And a hallway going to the First Lady Imelda Romualdez Marcos culture and music room.

The First is a reflection of the love and beauty of modern Filipinas. Her love for the Filipino people, in music, arts, and culture enabled her to construct the Cultural Center of the Philippines and we are now using them up to this day.

This photo portrays that the administration was pursuing a diplomatic relationship with other countries, especially in the US.

One of the visions of the Marcos administration was to help the dying economy of the Philippines.

The administration focuses especially on the agricultural sector and implemented “Masagana 99” a program that aims to grow the production of rice for Filipino farmers.

Outside the mansion was the historical Paoay Lake (positioned behind the house).

Here’s a Trivia: Paoay Lake was a well-heeled Barangay called “San Juan de Sahagun”

We can’t deny the fact that the administration gives a huge impact on forming the Philippines today.

I will not forget the time I stepped into this mansion and it gives me a sense of satisfaction after a long trip.

Having the chance to visit the historical place thrilled me to know more about the history of the Philippines.
