We’re safe!
I was 5 months old when a super typhoon, Ruping, struck Cebu. I have no memory of it. So I can say Odette was my first super typhoon experience. First Category 5 experience.
Yes, we’re spared from Odette’s direct wrath. It’s the after-effect that we felt so much. No electricity, no water, no internet, intermittent to no cellular signal, and shortage of food for some. Gas stations are packed with kilometer-stretched lines of cars.
Despite the preparations, there were still unexpected effects of Odette.
We have damaged houses and cars. Roofs were ripped off and glasses were shattered. Some cars got crushed by tree branches. Trees were uprooted. One huge “Magtalisay” tree in our place got uprooted
Scenes from our Baywalk.
Our seawall was also ravaged by Odette. Boulders of the seawall reached the road and affected a lot of motorist.
Ships ran aground. Good thing the ships weren’t washed away in the residential areas.
As we traveled to the city, we also witnessed how they were impacted.
There were a lot of fallen trees that caused a lot of traffic.
Ravaged gates, ripped off roofs of hardwares stores, and panels of SM Seaside fell apart.
In South Reclamation Properties(SRP), another ship ran aground. Cargo containers were sent flying. Electric post bowed down, still causing a lot of traffic since motorist are forced to share one side of the road.
In Lapu Lapu City, I witnessed the houses of neighboring communities ravaged by Odette. Roofs and walls were ripped off and torn down.
These pictures were taken from my condo.
These are just a glimpse of the physical effects of super typhoon Odette, that I was able to document. There are a lot more damages posted in social medias. This is just Talisay City, Cebu City, and Lapu Lapu City. Odette passed over a lot of cities and provinces in the Philippines. How much more on other places.
Apart from these physical damages, several people experienced emotional trauma. Help us pray that people affected by the super typhoon can recover from both physical and emotional traumas.
I would like to thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. We’ll heal as one.
