One of the scenes you see when living in the province is the tall grasses from each household’s backyard. Some grew even bigger because of the rain, and we cannot deny that the soil was healthy for them to grow continuously. Because of this, some people in the neighborhood spend some time cutting them down to clean the backyard. Because once they were not cut off, they might take up a lot of space. Today, we also realized that the grasses are growing bigger. That is when we decided to clean the backyard and start by cutting them off. Let us share how we did it with you.
We took some time checking the backyard so we would have an idea of how and where to start. There are indeed a lot of tall grasses that grow around the house. The surroundings were invaded by the grasses already, and it was time to cut them off to avoid snakes and other insects living in between them. We have been afraid of snakes since there was a time when we saw one crawling towards the house, and maybe it was because of the tall grasses.
Before we start cleaning, the materials we need must be ready. We looked for some long-sleeved shirts for protection from the sun and some lightweight cutting tools that can cut off grasses. Aside from that, we also made sure that there was cold water in our resting place so we could drink some once we got tired and thirsty. It’s time to do the cleaning when everything has been set up. We already went to the backyard.
The cleaning session continued, and our nephew had already joined to help us, but since he’s just a kid, we only allowed him to pick up some of the grasses and put them on the fire we set up. Aside from the tall grasses, we also decided to eliminate the wild grasses already growing beside the banana we planted months ago. They might affect the growth of our banana plants if we let them continue growing beside it.
After cutting off the grasses, we took some time to burn them. We cannot put it somewhere else since our compost is already full. Little by little, we burned them, and it took a few minutes before they turned into ashes. But the next time we clean, we will use the grasses on the compost for the soil during the next planting session, and we will do it again.
