Have you ever tried walking to and fro on a farm field?
I guess this doesn't really make any sense to most of you but some of my fellow Filipinos and some farmers could relate to.
Have you ever planted manually on a farm? I had it most on my childhood until now.
I was born from a farmer parents and farming always has a special place in my heart. Last week, About Thursday or so, my mother asked begged me to help her with the chores on the farm. I really wanted to help my senior mother; she's already past her 60s and I really want her to sit and boss around but I just can't make it happen because of the lack of funds.
On Sunday, my rest day from work, I asked my husband to bring us all to teh farm, including my three kids and since I was bringing them, I brought rice and viand, paksiw na bangus, and a premixed pancake mix so the kids won't be hungry while we were on the farm.
Geared with my jacket, pants, rubber boots and sunglasses, I ventured on a remarkable adventure to plant in the farm.
We all started to work after breakfast and I chose eh heavier work, carry the chopped cassava stalks and place them on a plowed row. And I had to walk back and forth to complete planting the field. My mother was selecting cassava stalks because we took them from ta month ago, I shared a post about it too
My mother made a basket her makeshift bag for the cassava stalks and I find it very handy when I used the basket. It's not that heavy but I had to walk on an uneven ground and it makes it harder.
The field has lots of grass which makes it even more challenging; sometimes it's hard to see the row too. Yet despite the hassle they gave, I still find their beauty astonishing. The grass and the sky looks os beautiful!
To make my work faster, I put stalks into two lanes at a time.
The sun was scorching as early as ten in the morning and my poor husband felt its hotness and even used some cassava plants he cut as additional protection from sunlight.
Farmer's life is hard, perhaps that's why my parents strived hard to make us finish school to have a better life. I hope one day, I can give back to my mother formal her sacrifices and hardwork for me.
My mother, even at her age is still strong by God's grace. She can carry half a sack of heavy cassava stalks in her head and it's been her life ever since.
Since we divided the work, planting was finished after a few hours. My kids were not in teh picture because I made my eldest daughter busy by asking her to cook teh pancake I brought. Too sad, half of the food was eaten by Parker the dog because she got busy with the phone with her siblings. I can't blame Parker though because I can see it in his face that he is really hungry. He ran away from his owner maybe because there was no food and ran to our farm.

Finally, we finished our job and rested under the shadow of a tree.
AHHH, it felt so good, I removed my boots and felt the ground beneath me. My husband took his time resting too
After planting the cassava, we went to visit our farm and I already [shared it here] and my husband took young coconuts from the tree and my kids enjoyed it so much. Mum's dogs waited for their share too.
Coconut water felt so good in my throat and the natural coldness soothed my thirst.
Here's a trivia:
Do you know that eating young coconuts with a spoon made from it's husk is the best way to eat it?
It was a tiring work to do but it's fulfilling. I'm so happy to have helped my mother with her chores and being there for her when she needed me.
Our weekend was tiring and fun at the same time and full of adventures too! It's a great escape with my family from my work prison and my boring, monotonous weekdays.
As much as I like going to the farm on Sundays, going there is a challenge. One way of going there is by motorcycle and we had to ride for twenty to thirty minutes due to road puddles and slippery roads. The second way of going there is thru the bridge but it was now broken due to a flash flood that happened months ago and we had to climb on a hill a quarter of the way going to the farm.
Anyway, after we fixed our things we headed home because my mother had to attend on an important meeting. I am looking forward to coming back there again and have another set of adventures with my family and kids.
This will be all for now, if you reached thsi far, thank you so much for your time and support. I'd love to hear from you in teh comments section and I'll see you all around. Keep safe and stay happy.
