A Wasted Trip To A Former Oasis
I finally found the time to go on a little trip in London and I picked one of my favourite places - "Ally Pally". It took a while to get there, including a short train ride and a bus, but it was a cloudy warm day so I didn't mind. Walking up the hill I could see some blocks on the road, as if preparing for a large event, so my interest was already peaked.
I was looking forward to using the cafe, lazing around on the grass and, perhaps, creating some video content to use later. When I got to the palace, however, I quickly realised I wouldn't be able to d any of that on the day. The cafe was closed for a private event - which also wasn't happening that day anyway because of a much larger event apparently. Access to the front of the palace was blocked and I could see water stations set up in various parts of the car park. In the distance, on the grass, I could see a huge colourful wind turbine that had been put there. No idea what that was all about.
"woah, must be a big event"
I saw a security man guarding the entrance of the car park. He didn't look too inviting but I went over to talk to him regardless. I asked him what was going on.
"It's a concert sir! Noel Gallagher!", he said straight to the point. I realised then that he must have said those exact words hundreds of times already that day. No wonder he looked a little grumpy haha. That was huge. That's a big name in music in the UK. I'm sure he's popular in some niches worldwide. His band Oasis was massive in the 90's. You probably know some of their songs even if you didn't realise who they were. They were kind of a Beatles 2.0 😅
The band split up a while ago, as bands do, and Noel went his own way. Not sure how much following he still has though. I don't know a single song of his outside the stuff he did with Oasis.
Anyhow it was kind of a wasted journey. I couldn't do any of the stuff I wanted to do. I managed to find a little patch of grass under a tree near the walls they put up to hide the event from onlookers. I had bought some coffee in a different cafe near the artificial lake and the children's playground. There is a cafe there too that caters to people using the lake, playground and skate park.
You can get a good look of the London skyline from Ally Pally. It was interesting to see some changes that have occurred since I was there. As usual, more towers had gone up, some still in construction judging by the scaffolding, and the city is growing upwards. The buildings are also encroaching on the empty spaces. It's a little sad to see, but I guess it's inevitable.
To end the day, I got caught in the rain. It wasn't supposed to rain, but it did anyway in classic London fashion. I didn't mind. It was nice.
Peace & Love,
Adé
