Mugwort mugwort everywhere... We have to find something to do with it!

I had finally pushed myself to learn something about mugwort. Amongst its medicinal uses I had been told mostly about its benefits with dreaming.

Looking into it, mugwort's been well used through history. Anywhere from using it to cook with, to warding off bad spirits!

Let's start with the magic of mugwort.

In the European Middle Ages, mugwort was used as a magical protective herb. Mugwort was used to repel insects, especially moths, from gardens. Mugwort has also been used from ancient times as a remedy against fatigue and to protect travelers against evil spirits and wild animals. Roman soldiers put mugwort in their sandals to protect their feet against fatigue.

It ain't called the dream herb for nothing.

In our Artemisian Sanctuary (a.k.a. Mugwort School of Rewilding and Natural Building) we love Artemis Vulgaris. Drinking it before bed, smoking it from time to time, and sleeping under dried bushels.

I can confirm that when I drink a good strong tea before bed, my dreams are much more intense and vivid. And I believe our 7 year old's are too, when we hang a handful of the plant, picked around the full moon to hand over is bed. Maybe too intense, as he gets up out of bed to finish off the night with us because his dreams woke him up, every time!

My preffered recipe for tea:

First, I take a small handful of the dried herb and roll it around in my palms until it keeps its shape, that of a large marble. I'll fill a mason jar full of these little puff balls of mugwort, ready to make tea whenever I want it.

You'll need:

Mugwort
Spring water
Maple syrup

Simply steep the herb for 10 minutes in hot local spring water, and cut it with a splash of local maple syrup.

There's nothing like drinking a warm, tasty beverage made entirely of wild and local products.

Obviously make it with what you have, and sweeten it or not, because it's a great dreaming tea, but if you can find all the ingredients locally and wild on top of that, it's really the best!

A good friend had told me to sell this stuff...

I was going to attempt selling it for different uses, smudge sticks, dream pillows, chopped for tea. I never tried to sell it but perhaps this winter, we'll make time to do so?
