Hello everyone, and especially the SurfHive Community! It's Jasper, the musical-surfer dad from Cape Town in South Africa.
Work has been busy for the last couple of months, and I have had to cut back on my time posting onto HIVE, but that doesn't mean I don't try get to the nearest coast from my house in Cape Town when I can find a quick two hour gap.
In order to be able to deal with whatever tide and size is available, I usually throw surfboards and a bodyboard into the car...
BODYBOARD
A couple of sessions lately have happened to be small and shallow on a little reef, where riding the bodyboard has made more sense...
Here's a great sequence of being a bit too deep, but having a great view as the exit got away from me...
This may look just right, but I think I got unlucky where the next section broke on me without barreling in this hollow fashion. You need your section of reef to go from shallow and hollow to immediately much deeper in order to emerge unscathed!
Here's a sequence where it went better... in the first photo you can see the wave stand up and even see why if you look carefully (you can see the shallow reef). It then throws a thin lip of water over me in the second photo, before I emerge, still riding along, onto a flatter section of wave (due to it being deeper underneath) in the third photo.
SURFBOARD
Here are some shots from a completely different vibe - riding a 7'6 mini-malibu at a much more gentle, rolling wave. On this day I managed to get to the closest beach after work, about 30 minutes before it got too dark to see...
By this last photo, the light was too dark for the screenshots I take from the video to be clear!
The clouds look ominous for a reason... when I got out of the water, the rain started falling hard! I threw the board into my car and drove home in my wetsuit with the heater on! Winter is here in the Southern hemisphere! Hahaha!

Olá a todos, e especialmente à Comunidade SurfHive! É Jasper, o pai surfista musical da Cidade do Cabo, na África do Sul.
O trabalho tem estado ocupado nos últimos meses e tive que reduzir meu tempo postando no HIVE, mas isso não significa que eu não tente chegar à costa mais próxima de minha casa na Cidade do Cabo quando puder. encontre um intervalo rápido de duas horas.
Para poder lidar com qualquer maré e tamanho disponível, costumo jogar pranchas de surf e bodyboard dentro do carro...
BODYBOARD
Ultimamente algumas sessões têm sido pequenas e rasas num pequeno recife, onde andar de bodyboard faz mais sentido...
Aqui está uma ótima sequência de ser um pouco profundo demais, mas ter uma ótima visão enquanto a saída se afastava de mim...
Isso pode parecer certo, mas acho que tive azar quando a próxima seção quebrou sobre mim sem cair dessa forma oca. Você precisa que sua seção de recife vá de raso e oco para imediatamente muito mais profundo para sair ileso!
Aqui está uma sequência onde foi melhor... na primeira foto você pode ver a onda se levantando e até perceber o porquê se olhar com atenção (dá para ver o recife raso). Em seguida, ele joga uma fina camada de água sobre mim na segunda foto, antes de eu emergir, ainda andando, em uma seção mais plana da onda (por ser mais profunda por baixo) na terceira foto.
PRANCHA DE SURFE
Aqui estão algumas fotos de uma vibração completamente diferente - surfando em um mini-malibu de 7'6 em uma onda muito mais suave e ondulante. Neste dia consegui chegar à praia mais próxima depois do trabalho, cerca de 30 minutos antes de escurecer demais para ver...
Nesta última foto, a luz estava muito escura para que as capturas de tela que tirei do vídeo ficassem claras!
As nuvens parecem ameaçadoras por uma razão... quando saí da água, a chuva começou a cair forte! Joguei a prancha no carro e voltei para casa de roupa de neoprene e com o aquecedor ligado! O inverno chegou no hemisfério sul! Hahaha!
