Yesterday I woke up and realized that one of my childhood dreams had just happened.
I believe every extreme sports athlete always had the dream of being sponsored to do what they love. In my case, chasing swells, surfing big waves and perfect barrels.
This is why I am writing this post: to thank the Gnars DAO members for voting and approving my sponsorship proposal. I am really stoked to be the first surfer in the Gnars team!
Gnars DAO is an action sports extension of Nouns DAO who supports the artistry of extreme sports athletes with proceeds from NFT sales and limited edition artist collabs.
We wanna rethink how action sports get funded and joining this DAO has been one of the coolest things I've done so far in my web3 journey.
DAOs are Decentralized Autonomous Organizations, like an evolved kind of cooperative that uses smart contracts and other cool web3 tools to facilitate collaboration and trust between members. It has an open governance where all the stakeholders are able to participate. In the case of Gnars, to participate in the governance, one has to own at least one GNAR.
This is the wavehead Gnar that 0xigami chose to me in our first meeting - it became my digital identity. Thanks heaps mate!
GNARs are really cool NFTs that are created every day, with unique traits, and that provide you access to the Gnars DAO governance. This model was inspired by Nouns DAO, a successful NFT project that funded Gnars and uses the proceeds from their NFT sales to spread the word about the nounish / web3 culture.
Our governance is still young. Gnars just reached 520 discord members and we're still learning and experimenting. One thing I can fee is: the people involved are definitely loving it.
The first things I did was to order some merch to wear around. It feels really great to join the Gnars athletes team and represent this community. I will try to do my best in and out of the water to collaborate and share the stoke.
When it comes to building communities in web3, learning and collaborating are key things. Sometimes we get the wave of our life, sometimes we wipeout and break our board. But the true thing is that we should be enjoying our rides.
I'd like to thank my mate @xvlad for introducing me to @gnars , @knowhow92 for the support on how to arrive on Hive and get things going with #SurfHive, and my good friends @lucasrocha94 , all teammates from @nxfbodyboard , @estagirons02 , @marinioac , @crisciacm for entering the web3 space and keeping the vibe alive!
As soon as I get better form my ankle injury (in about 2 weeks), I will be doing few surftrips to create gnarly content. I was also invited to participate in web3 events - and I promise to keep you guys posted on how things go!
PS: The picture below was last Sunday, even with my ankle injury I managed to get a couple good ones :)
