Technically this probably wasn't my set it was likely my older brother's. It came out in 1979 - my brother claims we bought it Duty free when we traveled to Australia (from NZ where we were living at the time) for Christmas in 1980.
I reckon we built a version of the this ship about 30 times when we were young, but I wouldn't have thought we followed the instructions too often.
But for this revisit I tried to find all the pieces, realised that there were a far amount missing - including a lot of the tail fins which we filmsy and broke often (Lego barely used them because, well they broke a lot) so I had to substitute some other colours black and grey in) and that upper window should be yellow not blue.
Otherwise It turned out pretty good, it certinaly bought back memories and the build is actually pretty challenging - not helped by the fact that Lego weren't great at instructions back then - the total instructions are 16 pages - nowaday something like this would have about 60-70 steps.
One of the cool things about the ship, is that the entire rear hinges open and the little buggy can drive into it - very space age.
The set also came with two base plates one classic space with a crater and a landing zone, plus a ground station with a very wonky aerial, and a big radar dish (which weirdly doesn't move) but it does add to the overall look.
Nice amount of special printed brick LL928 callsign on the front - 928 the set number and LL for Legoland as well as arrows and grates at the back.
All in all I loved this set, both back in the day where my brother and I spent hours playing with it and I really enjoyed revisiting it.
Let me know if you remember this set, or if you ever rebuild your Childhood lego.
