Hi fellow Outdoorsmen,
The little man got some ice skates the other day and had all kinds of fun with them!

First Ice Skates!
I guess I found another place to post a bunch of the fun things, just needed the weather to cooperate lol
The little man has been ansty in the house over the early course of the winter because it wasn't yet cold enough for ice and snow but it was still cold enough to make it not so fun being outside. Thankfully we had some insane brutal temperatures lately and that led to all kinds of frozen lakes and rivers around! We didn't miss an opportunity to teach the little man something new that's for sure!
We went to a local second-hand shop and went shopping for some fun stuff for the winter. I am really excited to be able to do that because those places are the most important to keep alive! It's a business that's owned by one guy, not a big company and he sells second hand gear that is still in good shape but might not be desired by others who buy new. With a kid, it's a bit of a waste of money to buy brand new things for some things like ice skates, snowboard boots and others so it's really amazing to be able to get them second hand. Score for many fronts! I was also excited to use cash to help the guy out, no stupid fees or other bullshit for him. Cold hard cash is the best.
It was a bit of a struggle to get the skates on but once we had them on, it was really fun watching him learn! I haven't skated for a few decades myself, although I do have a pair of skates. I don't remember a lot of what I did to learn except that I used 2 milk crates stacked ontop of each other to stand up and move. I might have to build something lightweight for him to use but in the meantime, I held him while he was learning.
What was hilarious is I went to the car to get something, left the little man in the chair and I come back to this! He's determined that's for sure hahaha.
The kids got amazing balance which is great! He's had that gift his whole life and it's tempting to get him into skateboarding or something else that requires a lot of great balance but with how much my body yells at me for the injuries I got when I was younger, I'm definitely hesitant to go that route lol.
We were able to find another family that was out on the ice enjoying it, having fun and playing so he got some kids to play with which was amazing. He has fun with me but he especially loves doing what kids do best: playing with others! By the time 30 minutes went by with those kids, he was roughly skating around on his own with minimal falls, really made me happy to see. We're certainly going to go back to the lake a few more times before the winter is over to enjoy some skating!
