Today's session with my friend Talia: model, makeup artist, clarinetist and photographer.
She's always willing for a photoshoot, so finally today we had the time to perform some low-keyed shots, where the light is reserved to the essential and is the protagonist, the negative space is a sea of nothing, only guiding you to the light.
It was shot with the help of a flash inside a 32x32" squared softbox, remotely, but when you don't have more to fit your view about the outcome, you have to rely on digital editing to clear the path to get to what you envisioned.
This is a screenshot in Photoshop, look how many layers I had used to smoothly remove on every layer mask the unusable, unnecessary details, I've combined both original/final image at the top for you to see the transition from color/details to the one you saw on top of this article.
It seems easy, but every stroke you have missed during the process, will show when printing, so this is a pin-point task, using a technique called "Check layers" which you can watch here, from my mentor Unmesh Dinda on Piximperfect's Youtube channel.
The second photo comes to wrap my entry, she saw a photo like this and we decided to recreate it, taking advantage of her haircut and I think it turned out great.
