The right thing to do. The best thing. Is there really such thing as the right thing?
Be good to others. Be kind. The right thing to do.
Am I supposed to be kind to the borderline frotteur that goes out of his way to bump me when I'm all the way on the opposite side of the sidewalk? Or should I trip him and give him a snort of pepper spray and tower (all five feet, two inches of me) over his fat sprawling body, and yell in the name of all women and all victims everywhere that touching someone without consent and with the intent of intimidation and/or sexual arousal IS NOT OK? Is that the right thing to do, or is that just hollywood?
The right thing to do.
Help those in need.
If they want help.
But what if they don't want help because they don't know they have a need?
What if they don't want help because they think themselves little more than a ten-day-old shit on the sidewalk that not even a dog would eat because that's what they've been told all their lives?
Do we force them to accept charity in the hopes that they may one day realize their own self-worth? Is that the right thing to do?
The right thing to do.
Save a baby bird from drowning.
But is he drowning? Or is he supposed to be out here? Do I "save" him and take him to a wildlife rescue only to learn that fledglings of this species learn to swim before they learn to fly and that I fucked up his life by taking him away from his parents and traumatizing him with some bumpy ass car ride to however far away the nearest rescue is just so another scary creature can give him a bumpy ass car ride back home to where he may or may not be reunited with the adult birds he relies on to feed him until he can feed himself?
Or is he sick?
Do I chase him and try to catch him only to have him go deeper into the water where he will find certain death if he is indeed feeble and diseased?
Or do I walk away.
Let nature be nature.
Let baby be baby.
Live and let live.
Or live and let die and chew out Axl Rose as soon as Slash finishes his solo.
Is that the right thing to do?
This is my entry for the #monomad challenge, held daily in the Black and White Community.
Give it a try. It could very well be the right thing to do, for you.
