Practicing Butoh is one of the most unique experiences you can have. The things that happen in your inner world when you experience this dance technique are very difficult to put into words, and the state you reach while doing it is quite different from the usual sense of proprioception one normally has.
Hacer Butoh es de las experiencias más únicas que puedes tener. Las cosas que suceden en el mundo interno cuando experimentas esta técnica de danza son muy difíciles de transmitir en palabras, y el estado al que llegas mientras lo estás practicando es bastante distinto a la experiencia regular de propiocepción que uno tiene.
These photos were taken at the end of a workshop I didn’t participate in, but that I followed closely through my life partner @paholamarin. I remember how every time she came home from class, I loved talking with her—she always brought up a theme related to the class and her personal experience, and that was my first real approach to Butoh, one that sparked a deep interest in me.
Estas fotos las hice al finalizar este taller donde no participé, pero del cual estuve al tanto por medio de mi compañera de vida @paholamarin. Recuerdo que siempre que llegaba de la clase me encantaba hablar con ella porque traía un tema relacionado con la clase y su experiencia personal, y fue un acercamiento al Butoh para mí que me hizo interesarme mucho por él.
Many of the photos I took were from the same physical spot, but that didn’t limit me from exploring and discovering things within that frame. Both the location and what was happening were full of moments.
Muchas de las fotos que tomé, las tomé desde un mismo punto, pero eso no me limitó para buscar y encontrar cosas ahí, debido a que tanto el lugar como lo que estaba sucediendo estuvieron llenos de momentos.
Years later, I did a workshop with the same teacher, and my view on Butoh changed completely. I was finally able to understand—embodied and from within—what it’s about and how one journeys through this beautiful form of movement.
Luego de años, hice un taller con el mismo profesor y mi postura frente al Butoh cambió radicalmente, porque pude comprender mejor y de forma encarnada de qué se trata y cómo se transita por esta forma tan bella de moverse.
