I got the chance to shoot at a place local to me called Mannakin Hall, a deliberately mispelt farmyard full of unwanted mannequins. It's a wierd and somewhat bizarre collection of fibre glass body parts which would otherwise end up in land fill or an incinerator. Also weirdly is that this place is very popular and it's surprising to see how one person's scrap mannequin turns in to another person's art.
I posted a colour set here: @fastchrisuk/a-walkabout-around-mannakin-hall
These are a few more from the shots I got on the day but this time in monochrome. I reckon mono with these things look a whole lot better!
I, Mannequin
Some of the mannequins were arranged in neat rows which reminded me of Isaac Asimov's I, Robot made popular in the 2004 film of the same name with Will Smith starring.
24 hour Party People
Partying hard 24 hours a day, 7 days a week can make you a little hard! Wooden even!
May the mannequin be with you!
Around the site were mannequins in various outfits, possibly in an ironic way.
Family Mannakin
I found this arrangement of mannequins carefully posed quite compelling. The adult mannequin carresing the child's face on the right. The one in the middle with a hat too big looking like he's up to no good. The girl on the left looking somewhat scared. Scary stuff....
Hive Minds
Looking like some sort of distopian sci-fi movie, these child mannequins were arranged close together. I keep thinking of various sci-fi movies such as Close Encounters where the aliens appeared.
Scarily realistic
Dressed in a wig this mannequin's makeup was really well done. If I didn't know any better I would have said this was real!
Lounge Lizard
There's something very creepy about a mannequin made up from different mismatched body parts!
Meet the Mannequins
Looks like a family to me!
Machomannequin
Three dudes looking rather macho but maybe somewhat emasculated having no arms or legs.
Le Grand Mix
I bought a smaller mannaquin during my visit and I may be tempted to cover it with newspaper print as they've done here. Being a lightpainter, I'll probably cover it with tin foil and light it up the dark!
About me:
I usually specialise in shooting lightpainting images but occasionally dabble in urbex and artistic model photography. I'm always on the lookout for someone to collaborate with; please don't hesitate to get in touch if you'd like to create art.
