Greetings, dear friends
Some time ago, I began sharing a series I titled Fragments of a City. At first, I wasn't entirely convinced by the name, but upon further reflection, I felt it should stay. Why? Because a city so full of contrasts, marked by its history, culture, politics, and, above all, its wonderful people, can only be narrated in fragments. Fragments of stories that do not appear isolated, but rather form a whole, even though they are independent. A tongue twister, yes, but that's where the magic lies... here we go.

At this time of day, the Plaza Vieja is bustling with people coming and going; this little girl doesn't seem to mind and takes a nap. I watched her mother and, occasionally, she would leave her there and go out to buy something; the girl remained unchanged.

A lizard in my path, on a piece of old wall and backlit. What more could I ask for? These are photos I can't pass up.
This is one of the busiest streets in the city. Sometimes I see children sitting on the sidewalk begging, which makes me very sad. I thought this one was doing the same thing, but no, he was helping his parents, who were cleaning the facade, and he was just taking a break. Sometimes appearances can be deceiving, I told myself.
I found this place by chance. A few hundred years ago, parents who didn't want to take care of their children would throw them out of this window, and nuns would rescue them.
Havana and its fragments, those that touch on everyday life and make this city so unique, are what I wanted to share with you today. I hope you enjoyed this little tour. I look forward to reading your comments, friends.

Saludos, amigos queridos
Hace algún tiempo comencé a compartir una serie que titulé Fragmentos de Ciudad. Al principio no estaba muy convencido del nombre, pero pensándolo mejor sentí que debía quedarse. ¿Por qué? Porque una ciudad tan llena de contrastes, marcada por su historia, cultura, política y, sobre todo, por su gente maravillosa, solo puede narrarse en fragmentos. Fragmentos de historias que no lucen aisladas, sino que forman un todo, aunque a la vez sean independientes. Un trabalenguas, sí, pero ahí está la magia… allá vamos.
A estas horas del día, la Plaza Vieja está bien transitada de personas que vienen y van; a esta niña parece no importarle y se echa la siesta. Yo estuve observando a su mamá y, en ocasiones, la dejaba allí y salía a comprar algo; la niña, inmutable.
Un lagarto en mi camino, sobre un trozo de muro viejo y a contraluz. ¿Qué más puedo pedir? Son fotos que no puedo dejar escapar.

Esta es una de las calles más transitadas de la ciudad. A veces veo niños sentados en la acera pidiendo, lo que me da mucha tristeza. Pensé que este estaba haciendo lo mismo, pero no, estaba ayudando a sus padres, que limpiaban la fachada, y él solo descansaba un rato. A veces las apariencias engañan, me dije.
Este lugar lo encontré de casualidad. Hace unos cientos de años, los padres que no querían hacerse cargo de sus hijos los arrojaban por esta ventana y unas monjas los rescataban.
La Habana y sus fragmentos, esos que rozan la cotidianidad y hacen tan única a esta ciudad, son los que he querido compartirles hoy. Espero que hayan disfrutado este pequeño recorrido. Los leo en los comentarios, amigos.
