This photo series was captured during a local marathon in a Havana municipality, back in 2018. It was my second time photographing an event of this kind, after previously covering the Marabana, a larger and more dynamic experience that left a strong impression on me. This time, however, the pace was different.
With a bit more experience handling my camera and lens, but in a setting that was more contained and less fast paced, I focused on the small gestures and raw expressions. I aimed to capture not just the physical effort, but also the emotional pulse of the moment: youthful competition, determination, and the kind of energy that pushes beyond exhaustion.
The 75-300 mm lens allowed me to keep a respectful distance without losing emotional proximity. The Canon XTi, though modest, responded well to the morning light and the contrast of the city streets. This series speaks of community, of shared effort, and of how sports photography can also offer a glimpse into our humanity.
