As in many countries of America, in Venezuela there is also a large Italian community, formed by people who mostly came to this continent fleeing the war in Europe, settled here, had families, contributed to the development of towns and cities and their traces can be found in many places, for example in the one I show you in this post, the Plaza Italia in La Victoria, Aragua state.
Como en muchos países de América, en Venezuela también existe una gran comunidad italiana, formada por personas que en su mayoría llegaron a este continente huyendo de la guerra en Europa, se establecieron aquí, tuvieron familia, contribuyeron al desarrollo de pueblos y ciudades y sus huellas pueden encontrarse en muchos lugares, por ejemplo en el que les muestro en esta publicación, la Plaza Italia de La Victoria, estado Aragua.
Located at the entrance of the city, very close to the tollbooth, this square has four sculptures with which the Italian community pays homage to its link with this country. The largest and most visible is a globe, on the plaque it says that it was built by the Italian-Venezuelan Civil Association in 1977, “Luigi Vona, Nicola Di Teodoro, Mario Villani, Giuseppe Rino, Giovanni Di Lorenzo”.
Ubicada en la entrada de la ciudad, muy cerca del peaje, esta plaza tiene cuatro esculturas con las que la colectividad italiana rinde homenaje a su vínculo con este país. El más grande y visible es un globo terráqueo, en la placa que está allí dice que fue construido por la Asociación Civil Ítalo Venezolana en el año1977, “Luigi Vona, Nicola Di Teodoro, Mario Villani, Giuseppe Rino, Giovanni Di Lorenzo”.
This sphere, work by Nicola Di Teodoro, is made of fiberglass and symbolizes the alliance between Italy and Venezuela. The map of the two countries is highlighted with the colors of their flags.
Esta esfera, obra de Nicola Di Teodoro, está hecha de fibra de vidrio y simboliza la alianza entre Italia y Venezuela. El mapa de los dos países está resaltado con los colores de sus banderas.
It is surrounded by several cement benches, and upon closer inspection, each one bears the name of the person who contributed to place it there.
La rodean varios bancos de cemento, al observarlos de cerca, en cada uno de ellos se lee el nombre de la persona que contribuyó para colocarlo allí.
Plaza Italia was built with private contributions, but since it is a public place, the mayor's office supports its maintenance. Currently its condition is not the best, it needs some repairs and to beautify the area by replanting grass, for example.
La Plaza Italia se construyó con aportes privados, pero al ser un lugar público, la alcaldía apoya en su mantenimiento. Actualmente su condición no es la mejor, le hacen falta algunas reparaciones y embellecer el área replantando grama, por ejemplo.
Another of the sculptures that we can see here is a wrought iron sculpture representing a ship with crew members, symbolizing the arrival of Christopher Columbus to these lands.
Otra de las esculturas que podemos ver aquí es una de hierro forjado que representa un barco con tripulantes, y que simboliza la llegada de Cristóbal Colón a estas tierras.
On the cement pedestal that supports it, one side reads: “The Italian community to the city of La Victoria, Year 2000”, and on the other side: “Plaza Italia 1498-1998”, I suppose that this monument was thought as a milestone of the 500 years of Columbus' arrival to the coast of Paria (Sucre state), which happened on August 3, 1498 during his third trip to the American continent.
En el pedestal de cemento que la sostiene, se lee por un lado: “La colectividad italiana a la ciudad de La Victoria, Año 2000”, y por el otro: “Plaza Italia 1498-1998”, supongo que este monumento fue pensado como un hito de los 500 años de la llegada de Colón a la costa de Paria (estado Sucre), ocurrida el 3 de agosto de 1498 durante su tercer viaje al continente americano.
When walking towards the tollbooth there are some fountains, they are not in operation, but I took advantage of the water there to take a shot with the reflection of the trees.

After them are two other monuments, the first is the bronze sculpture of the Capitoline She-Wolf or Luperca, which according to popular culture, fed the twin founders of Rome, Romulus and Remus.

This box dating from 2002, with decorative elements such as the column and its top, is a tribute to the Liberator Simón Bolívar, who together with his master Simón Rodríguez, climbed Monte Sacro in Rome, Italy, on August 15, 1805 to take his famous oath, in which he promised to fight relentlessly for the freedom of Venezuela.
Esta caja que data del año 2002, con elementos decorativos como la columna y su tope, es un homenaje al Libertador Simón Bolívar, quien junto a su maestro Simón Rodríguez, subió al Monte Sacro en Roma, Italia, el 15 de agosto de 1805 para hacer su famoso juramento, en el que prometió luchar sin tregua por la libertad de Venezuela.
