How do you surrender to God?
There are four typical elements of surrender.
1. Authority
You have to submit to authority in order to submit. You need to acknowledge God's authority, his sovereignty, his ability to be everything that you're not.
2. Humility
You have to be able to say, listen, I can't do this. I can't be authority for myself and submit to it at the same time. So I have to humble myself and stop trying to be God. You need to be able to humble yourself and stop trying to be God for you in the way that you respond to things, handle things. You do not have God's authority.
3. Obedience
There's no way that you can submit and not obey. Submit is you responding to a command with compliance. So you have to comply and you have to apply what they're saying or what the command is. You have to obey. You got to do what God say do. In his word, what he's commanding you, what he's leading you to do, you can't just not do it.
4. Acceptance
It's real hard to surrender to something that you just want to accept. It don't mean you have to like it. It don't mean you have to go with it. It don't mean you have to roll with it in your emotions and in your heart. But you do have to accept it. Because acceptance means I'm not going to resist it.
The actual definition of surrender literally means to cease resistance to. To stop resisting. So if you haven't stopped resisting something, you're surrendered to it. No matter what sin you say you are able to stop in five seconds, if you're still not resisting it, you surrender. You surrender. And four, in time, you will accept it and he will help you to get to that place to where you accept it. You don't got to like it, but you do have to comply.
