Every single day I do my Axie grind. No exceptions, I never miss it.
Now that I have been a scholar for about a month I'm getting used to Axie being part of my daily routine.
Even just since I joined the game seems to have gotten a lot bigger, I started around 500k active daily users and now there's around a million. Axie mania took over the world, not just the Phillipines. I know at least a dozen people grinding Axie on scholarship accounts, and a few people running their own scholarship programs.
Big SLP Rewards Shift
Everybody reading this probably already knows about the SLP rewards adjustment that happened about a week ago.
After this change took place a lot of people were super worried about SLP rewards going down. With PvE mode offering only half as much rewards as before, everybody would have to "live or die" by our PvP results.
I can understand how intimidating this is for some people. For me, idk, I have gotten used to grinding hard on PvP mode in card/turn-based games over the last year. Luckily this is a change that if anything works in my favor. I feel bad for people who have no experience in these kinds of games though.
Difficulty Hasn't Changed for Me
My experience on the PvP ladder has been exactly the same as ever.
I don't think the ladder is more difficult to play on even though there is more incentive to play it. If anything, a higher incentive to play PvP has lowered the average skill level at my normal rank, it feels like I am encountering less strong meta teams and a lot more random teams. Lots of non-STAB moves.
I am happy to report that my ranking is looking pretty good! Getting above 1350 is a nice milestone since PvP rewards seem to be a lot better up here.
I try not to think about my ranking at all. I just play as well as I can. Axie is a lot like poker, your draws matter and there is some luck in each individual match. It's easy to go on tilt if you worry about ranks and rewards with each match... I try not to think about it.
What Happens Next?
The Axie grind seems like it will stay the same for me for a long time. I don't plan on starting a scholarship program or reinvesting into the game too much right now, it's just too expensive for my budget.
Instead I am taking about half of what I earn and reinvesting it into other crypto games. Last time I got paid by my manager I upgraded my Lost Relics loadout for example. This stuff is great because I only buy in games that I enjoy and think have long-term potential, so it's a natural investment that also has immediate utility.
Next paycheck I might put some money into Gods Unchained. It would be fun to build some new decks...
But as far as Axie goes, I am hoping to keep my head down and keep grinding. I hope I can keep earning these Axie paychecks for years to come, that would be amazing as an additional income stream in my life.
