Nothing gets me excited for a game like a nice fat referral code at the start. Truly referrals are the highest form of marketing and monetization which is why the greatest games of all time have used it...
A Good Thing
Honestly it does make me happy if small creators can use dumb games like Raid Shadow Legends to make money, I've heard of relatively small channels with a hundred viewers paying a month of rent with that kind of thing.
I support creators making money. Duh
Of course we all know that referral codes for shitty games is kind of a bad way to build a channel unless your goal is to get all of your followers to play the worst games possible.
Mixed Feelings
That's why I have mixed feelings about the big announcement Sky Mavis's marketing team just made about creator codes. These creator referral codes are so good for the game's ecosystem, but, it's going to make outsiders EVEN MORE suspicious of the idea that Axie is actually fun.
As someone who enjoys Axie I think I just accept a ton of people might assume I'm shilling a bad game for money, literally like I'm streaming Raid Shadow Legends full time.
On the other hand, contrary to popular belief Axie creators are not all a bunch of rich crypto whales just drooling over fat investment returns. A lot of us including me are pretty poor, I have the advantage of living in America I know a lot of other people are expontentially worse off than me.
So the idea of creators receiving any kind of referral bonus or especially a percentage of money spent by their viewers is a HUGE WIN.
Overall I'm a big fan of it.
Nows a good time to mention USE CREATOR CODE FLUX IN AXIE ORIGIN.
USE CREATOR CODE FLUX!!!!
The video talks about this and a few of the other juicy updates we learned during the Upptic Twitter spaces from a few days ago.
