It's the eve of the last day to this year's journal posting challenge. And I feel a little different about the process this year. Since I journal frequently already this year's challenge for me, was to do it daily on a schedule.
I set an option for myself to journal first thing in the morning or last thing in the evening. I've kept to this schedule for the entire month of November. It's worked best for me to journal in the morning.
Keeping to a set time has forced me wake up early (an hour earlier) in order to start my work on time. I like the extra me time in the morning before my calendar rules the rest of the day and I found it was easier to get out of bed knowing the first thing I got to do was journal.
They say discipline outranks motivation and I'm hoping that's true now that the challenge is coming to a close. Getting my day started earlier had a ripple effect on the rest of my work.
I started to schedule my day in chunks, I got more things done in a day, and I found the routine refreshing on my mental load. I didn't have to think about what I should be doing next. I had scheduled it out that morning or the day before.
Once this posting challenge is done I'll have the extra time I've carved out to post here every day to use for something else. I've already created a habit of sitting at my computer after I journal to post, so now I can use this time to create content for my business instead. Since I'm like the cobbler's kid with my own business (too busy helping others grow their business to grow my own) this would be a great use of the time.
It's so easy to loose momentum once a challenge is over. How will you keep regular journal writing habits going after November?
