Grid Trading Experiment: Results After 20 Days of Activity
At the time of writing this post, June 23rd, exactly 20 days have passed since I launched my little grid trading experiment, which I’ve already talked about in two previous posts that you can find here:
In the second post, written after 7 days of activity, I pointed out that the script had generated a profit of about 3% of the initial budget, i.e. 32 HIVE.
Today, after the sharp drop in HIVE's price and nearly two more weeks of activity, the script has accumulated an additional 3% in gains, bringing the total HIVE held by @wolf-lord to 34.
The total ROI is therefore 6%, which is definitely an impressive result, but there’s a “but.”
The game is getting riskier
For grid trading to be effective, the price ratio between the assets used must remain as stable as possible. If this ratio changes too often and too drastically, the script will end up executing a series of unprofitable trades, buying and selling under unfavorable conditions and gradually draining the available budget.
The recent and sharp drop in HIVE's price over the last few days has therefore been a negative event — not just because I hate seeing the value of my portfolio drop, but also because my script has had more trouble executing trades, often having to cancel previously placed orders to recreate them under less favorable conditions.
The only thing that "saved" me was the fact that the price just dropped and didn’t bounce back up.
If it had, I definitely would’ve ended up with fewer HIVE than I started with and — even if this was just an experiment — that still would’ve stung a little.
I’m attached to every HIVE I own, what can I say? 🤣

At this point, I’ve decided to temporarily stop the experiment.
20 cents is a really low price for HIVE, and personally I think — and hope — that it will bounce back (reasonably) soon.
If that happens, I’ll be able to restart the script as soon as HIVE stabilizes again, especially if it returns to the 25–30 cent range.
In the meantime, I don’t plan on sitting around doing nothing. I’ll keep working (or rather, get back to working) on another script — one that should do the same thing, but with a pair of stablecoins, USDC and USD₮0, on Solana.
So far, I’ve built some parts of the script, which have already proven more complex than expected, and I need to test if this first part is working correctly. If it is, the next steps should be simpler… but surprises are always around the corner, so I’m not getting my hopes up 🤣

Esperimento Grid Trading: Risultati Dopo 20 Giorni di Attività
Nel momento in cui scrivo questo post, 23 giugno, sono passati esattamente 20 giorni da quando ho avviato il mio piccolo esperimento sul grid trading, di cui ho già parlato in due precedenti post, che potete trovare qui:
Nel secondo post, scritto dopo 7 giorni di attività, avevo evidenziato come lo script avesse generato un guadagno pari a circa il 3% del budget iniziale, ossia 32 HIVE.
Oggi, dopo il forte calo di prezzo di HIVE e quasi altre due settimane di attività, lo script ha accumulato un ulteriore 3% di guadagni, portando quindi il totale di HIVE detenuti da @wolf-lord a 34 HIVE.
Il ROI complessivo è quindi pari al 6%, che è decisamente un risultato impressionante, ma c'è un "ma".
Il gioco si fa sempre più rischioso
Perchè il grid trading si riveli efficace occorre infatti che il rapporto tra i prezzi degli assets utilizzati resti il più possibile costante: se questo rapporto dovesse cambiare troppo spesso e troppo drasticamente, lo script andrebbe infatti ad eseguire una serie di trade non profittevoli, vendendo ed acquistando a condizioni sfavorevoli ed esaurendo piano piano il budget a disposizione.
Il recente e forte calo di prezzo di HIVE di questi ultimi giorni è stato quindi un evento negativo, non solo perchè mi spiace vedere il valore del mio portafoglio diminuire, ma anche perchè il mio script ha avuto maggiori difficoltà ad eseguire operazioni di trading, ritrovandosi spesso a dover cancellare ordini già piazzati per ricrearli a condizioni meno favorevoli.
L'unica cosa che mi ha "salvato" è il fatto che il prezzo sia solo calato e non sia invece poi rimbalzato verso l'alto.
In questo secondo caso mi sarei ritrovato sicuramente con meno HIVE di quelli che avevo all'inizio e, per quanto si trattasse solo di un esperimento, comunque la cosa mi sarebbe un po' dispiaciuta.
Sono affezionato ad ogni HIVE che possiedo, che ci posso fare? 🤣

A questo punto ho perciò deciso di arrestare temporaneamente l'esperimento.
20 centesimi è infatti un prezzo davvero basso per HIVE e personalmente penso, e spero, che dovrà risalire in tempi (ragionevolmente) brevi.
Se ciò avverrà, potrò riattivare lo script non appena HIVE sarà tornato ad avere un valore stabile, soprattutto se questo dovesse essere di nuovo nel range dei 25-30 centesimi.
In questo lasso di tempo ho però intenzione di non restarmene con le mani in mano e continuerò (o, meglio, riprenderò) a lavorare su un altro script, ossia quello che dovrebbe effettuare la stessa cosa, ma con una coppia di stablecoins, USDC e USD₮0, su Solana.
Per ora ho realizzato alcune parti dello script, che già si sono rivelate più complesse del previsto, e devo testare se questa prima parte funziona correttamente; se il risultato sarà positivo, i successivi passaggi dovrebbero essere più semplici... ma le sorprese sono sempre dietro l'angolo, per cui non ci spero troppo 🤣
