I can't believe that this contest has already reached its 30th edition! I’m very happy to have participated in some of the proposed themes, that I shared my ideas with the community and to have learned a lot from other users.

Faccio fatica a credere che questo contest sia già arrivato alla sua 30esima edizione! Sono molto felice di aver partecipato ad alcuni dei temi proposti, di aver condiviso le mie idee con la community e di aver imparato moltissimo dagli altri utenti.

Il tema di questa settimana è uno dei miei preferiti: "Il valore delle piccole cose".

When I read the theme of the week, I had just just collected the first basket of the zucchini season of my garden. The first basket of vegetables is always magical, because it makes you forget all the efforts made in recent months: sowing the seeds, taking care of the small seedlings, working the soil and planting plants.
So, I thought of talking to you about an activity that is really satisfactory for me: cultivating your food. In this simple gesture I can grasp the value of small daily things!
In a world that runs fast, where success is often measured according to what is produced or owned, I’m learning to slow down and find beauty and meaning in small things. This is the great teaching of my vegetable garden!
It's not big, it's not perfect, but it's my little vegetable garden. Every day, dedicate even just a few minutes to it reminds me that patience is able to bear fruit. A seed planted today becomes a leaf, a perfume and a very good food tomorrow. If we want, we can also extend this teaching to everyday life.
Quando ho letto il tema della settimana, avevo da poco appena raccolto il primo cesto della stagione di zucchine del mio orto. Il primo cesto di verdura è sempre magico, perché fa dimenticare tutti gli sforzi fatti negli scorsi mesi: seminare i semi, prendersi cura delle piccole piantine, lavorare la terra, pacciamare e piantare le piante.
Quindi, ho pensato di parlarvi di un’attività che per me è davvero soddisfacente: coltivare il proprio cibo. In questo semplice gesto io riesco a cogliere il valore delle piccole cose quotidiane!
In un mondo che corre veloce, dove spesso si misura il successo in base a quanto si produce o si possiede, sto imparando a rallentare e a trovare bellezza e significato nelle piccole cose. Questo è il grande insegnamento del mio orto!
Non è grande, non è perfetto, ma è il mio piccolo orto. Ogni giorno, dedicargli anche solo pochi minuti mi ricorda che la pazienza è in grado di dare dei frutti. Un seme piantato oggi diventa domani una foglia, un profumo e un cibo buonissimo. Se vogliamo, possiamo estendere questo insegnamento anche alla vita di tutti i giorni.

There is something deeply rewarding to see their plants grow, in cure the soil with your hands, in grasping a basil leaf still wet of dew. It’s a simple gesture, but it contains a whole world: respect, care and gratitude.
Cultivating the vegetable garden teaches me to slow down, to observe, to be present and reminds me that it doesn’t need much to be happy. Sometimes a growing plant is enough, a flower that blossoms, a vegetable garden that smells of life!
Being able to cultivate one's food is also a gesture of awareness: they are able to produce with my hands what I bring to the table, without plastic, without unnecessary treatments and without long journeys inside to trucks. What's better?
C'è qualcosa di profondamente gratificante nel vedere crescere le proprie piante, nel curare la terra con le mani, nel cogliere una foglia di basilico ancora bagnata di rugiada. È un gesto semplice, ma racchiude un mondo intero: rispetto, cura e gratitudine.
Coltivare l’orto mi insegna a rallentare, ad osservare, ad essere presente e mi ricorda che non serve molto per essere felici. A volte basta una pianta che cresce, un fiore che sboccia, un orto che profuma di vita!
Poter coltivare il proprio cibo è anche un gesto di consapevolezza: sono in grado di produrre con le mie mani ciò che porto in tavola, senza plastica, senza trattamenti inutili e senza lunghi viaggi dentro a dei camion. Cosa c’è di meglio?

Since I’m also an practical person (as well as an unveiling romantic and poetic) I also like the concrete aspects of cultivation. This is why I share some vegetables numbers that I managed to cultivate in 2024, to make you understand that the value of small things can also become great economic help!
- Onion: 5 kg;
- Aubergine: 4.3 kg;
- Pepper: 3 kg;
- Tomato (“costoluto fiorentino”, “datterino giallo”, “principe borghese”): 26 kg;
- Pumpkin: 5 kg;
- Courgette: 14 kg;
- ...
As you can see, they are numbers that allow me to me and my family members not to go to the supermarket to buy vegetables during the summer!
This year I hope the harvest is even better, because I have optimized some small areas of the garden.

Visto che sono anche una persona pratica (oltre che un’inguaribile romantica e poetica) mi piacciono anche gli aspetti concreti della coltivazione. Per questo vi condivido alcuni numeri di verdure che sono riuscita a coltivare nel 2024, per farvi capire che il valore delle piccole cose può diventare anche un grande aiuto economico!
- Cipolla: 5 kg;
- Melanzana: 4,3 kg;
- Peperone: 3 kg;
- Pomodoro (“costoluto fiorentino”, “datterino giallo”, “principe borghese”): 26 kg;
- Zucca: 5 kg;
- Zucchina: 14 kg;
- …
Come potete vedere, sono numeri che permettono tranquillamente a me e ai miei famigliari di non andare al supermercato a comprare la verdura durante il periodo estivo!
Quest’anno spero che il raccolto sia ancora migliore, perché ho ottimizzato alcune piccole zone dell’orto.
