Hello everyone, friends of Splinterlands !!!
New chapters have been added to the first book of the Campaigns, and after trying them, I can say they are much more difficult than the previous ones. In the final challenge of Chapter 12.3, you have to face, using only the Foundations cards acquired so far, a Troll card named Gioplof, with a whopping 55 Health points, just 1 Speed, and 8 Melee, and if that wasn't enough, the Pierce ability too.
After many attempts, I managed to beat the challenge. I couldn’t believe that even for me, a long-time player, a tutorial battle could be this hard to win.
I won’t give away the solution, but as suggested by the professor of the moment, you need to carefully balance Speed points and evasive abilities to make sure the Troll’s devastating hits miss their targets.
It’s always hard to learn how to use cards you don’t know well, and that’s why I’m experimenting with the new monsters from the Conclave Arcana edition, like the one I’ll be showcasing in this post, while taking part in this week’s Splinterlands Social Media Challenge !!!
Blazebeard Merc, a Fire element card with the Dwarf bloodline, has an incredibly favorable cost-to-stats ratio, with just 3 mana giving you 2 Melee, 7 Armor, 4 Health, 3 Speed, and the Charge ability at level 1.
But of course, not everything can be perfect, because it also comes with the heavy debilitation called Incendiary, which from round 2 has a 33% chance to infect adjacent cards with Burning, and that can be a big issue if it happens.
At level 3, it gains the Pierce ability, and at its final upgrade level, level 6, it also gains Bloodlust.
For an epic rarity card, its price of about $1.5 per BCX isn’t bad at all. In fact, it’s quite sought after by players who are starting to realize its potential.

I chose one of my now favorite setups for playing in Modern, with Lorkus as Archon, and Chaos Golem in the Tank position, followed by Blazebeard Merc, Rush Townsend, Surly Drunk, and Elanor Bravefoot.
My opponent instead opted for the dual-element Fire/Earth archon named Brewmaster Abraxas, with Halfling Refugee in the first position, Pallus in second, followed by Chaos Evoke, Gobalano Soldier, and finally Nimbledook Ranger.
My opponent’s team was very well prepared and upgraded, with cards even at level 3, so clearly stronger than my selection on the field, but maybe lacking firepower, and couldn’t quite defend against the 5 Melee from Chaos Golem and the 5 Ranged from Rush Townsend.
Blazebeard Merc performed fairly well, landing some solid hits that took significant Health points from the opposing team, but starting from round 2, it infected Chaos Golem with Burning, and in the next round the infection spread to Rush Townsend too.
Burning deals -2 damage per round to the infected card, and that’s a massive hit that can knock out even the most resilient cards.
That’s why cards like Blazebeard Merc, which have excellent stats at a very low cost but come with these debilitation effects, should only be used if you expect to win in just a few rounds, maybe in low Mana Cap battles, or with rulesets that deal damage to all monsters on the field, like Earthquake or Noxious Fumes, and that let you predict that, whatever happens, the battle will be short.

Sono stati aggiunti nuovi capitoli al primo libro delle Campaigns, e, dopo averli provati, posso dire che sono molto più difficili dei precedenti: nella sfida finale del capitolo 12.3, c'è da affrontare ,solamente con le carte Foundations finora acquisite, una carta Troll, di nome Gioplof, con ben 55 punti di Health , solo 1 di Speed e 8 di Melee, con in aggiunta, se questo non bastasse, l'abilità Pierce.
Dopo tanti tentativi, sono riuscito a superare la sfida: non credevo che, anche per me che sono un giocatore di vecchia data, una battaglia da tutorial potesse essere così difficile da superare.
Non voglio dare la soluzione, ma, come viene consigliato dal professore di turno, bisogna dosare bene i punti Speed e le abilità evasive per fare modo che i colpi devastanti del Troll non vadano a segno.
È sempre difficile imparare ad usare carte che non si conoscono affondo , ed è per questo che sto sperimentando con i nuovi mostri dell'edizione Conclave Arcana, come quello che vi porterò in questo post, partecipando così allo Splinterlands Social Media Challenge di questa settimana !!!
Blazebeard Merc: carta dell'elemento Fire e della bloodline Dwarf, ha un rapporto costo/stats incredibilmente favorevole, con, per il costo di solo 3 mana, 2 di Melee, 7 di Armor, 4 di Health, 3 di Speed e l'abilità Charge, al livello 1.
Ma, ovviamente, non poteva essere tutto bello in questo modo, perchè infatti ha anche la pesante debilitation di nome Incendiary, che , dal round 2, ha il 33% di probabilità di infettare con Burning le carte adiacenti, e questo è un grosso problema se succede.
Al livello 3, ottiene poi l'abilità Pierce, e all'ultimo livello di potenziamento, il 6, si prende anche Bloodlust.
Per essere una carta di rarità epica, la sua quotazione di circa 1,5$ per BCX non è malaccio, anzi, è una carta abbastanza richiesta dai giocatori che stanno incominciando a notare le sue potenzialità.

Io ho scelto una delle mia configurazioni preferite, ormai, per giocare in Modern, con Lorkus come Archon, e Chaos Golem in posizione Tank, seguito proprio da Blazebeard Merc, Rush Townsend, Surly Drunk e Elanor Bravefoot.
Il mio avversario, invece, si è orientato verso l'archon a doppio elemento Fire/Earth di nome Brewmaster Abraxas, con Halfling Refugee in prima posizione, Pallus in seconda, e a seguire Chaos Evoke, Gobalano Soldier e, per finire, Nimbledook Ranger.
La squadra del mio avversario era molto ben preparata e potenziata, con carte anche al livello 3, quindi superiori alla mia selezione di mostri in campo, forse però mancavano di potenza di fuoco, e non potevano difendersi un granchè dai 5 punti Melee di Choas Golem e i 5 di Ranged di Rush Townsend.
Blazebeard Merc si è comportato abbastanza bene, sferrando anche dei bei attacchi che hanno tolto dei punti Health pesanti alla squadra opposta, però dal round 2 ha infettato Choas Golem con Burning, e il round successivo l'infezione è passata anche a Rush Townsend.
Burning infligge un danno di -2 ad ogni Round alla carta che ne è infettata, è questo è un grandissimo danno che può far finire al tappeto anche le carte più resistenti.
È per questo motivo che carte come Blazebeard Merc, che hanno ottime stats con costo molto contenuto, ma che possiedono queste debiltiations, devono essere usate solo se si pensa di poter vincere in pochi round, magari con Mana Cap bassi, oppure con rulsets che infliggono danni a tutti i mostri in campo, come Earthquake oppure Noxious Fumes, e che ci fanno prevedere che , comunque vadano le cose, i Round saranno pochi.
