Throughout the various editions of Splinterlands, we've seen increasingly refined mechanics and progressively deeper strategies: at first there were only abilities, then rulesets were added, and now we have Bloodlines.
But it is with the arrival of the Rebellion edition that the game has truly taken a bold leap in a completely new direction: that of Debilitations. For the first time, some cards bring negative abilities, effects that inflict damage not only to themselves but, in some cases, even to their own teammates.
At first glance, it may seem counterintuitive: why would a player want to field a card that harms itself or its team? The answer lies in a delicate balance between risk and power. Cards with Debilitations have very advantageous stats relative to their mana cost. More health, more attack, more speed, but with a price to pay, often high, and always to be carefully evaluated.
This new mechanic has disrupted the way we play, pushing players to think even more strategically. Debilitations force players to rethink team synergy, seeking lineups that not only manage to balance the self-inflicted damage, but perhaps even turn it into a tactical advantage.
In this post, we’ll talk about a new card, Conclave Arcana, which possesses a new Debilitation, and we’ll see whether it’s useful to use it, and under what circumstances.
Cavewise Wayfinder: a Common card of the Fire element and the Gnome Bloodline (like the new archon Razi Clanktrap), costs 6 mana, and at level 1 has 4 Armor, 7 Health, 3 Speed, 2 Melee, and the Ambush ability, but unfortunately, it also carries the new Debilitation called Reckless, which inflicts 1 physical damage for each successful hit by Cavewise, to every adjacent teammate.
With level upgrades, its stats increase, and it also gains Void at level 5 and Enrage at level 10.
The market price today is extremely cheap, below $0.10, clearly showing that this card hasn’t yet gained public favor, possibly due to its risky cost-to-benefit ratio and the potential damage to the team it may cause.

Low Mana Cap battle, only 24, with the Ferocity ruleset, so I decided to spend most of my mana on the archon, choosing Lorkus, and saving a bit on the monsters on the field: in the Tank position I placed Cavewise Wayfinder, upgraded to level 3, followed by Infernal Firestorm, Surly Drunk, and Elanor Bravefoot.
My opponent, on the other hand, chose the archon Prunda Undervesch, with Halfling Refugee in first position, followed by Nimbledook Explorer, Shock Trooper, Razorhound, Archer Koi, and finally, Mar Toren Trader.
Usually, I’m the one who fills all the slots on the team, but this time it was my opponent who managed to occupy all 6 slots, perhaps choosing cards that were a bit too cheap, and an archon that didn’t provide any Buffs or Debuffs.
Instead, my choice to go with an archon like Lorkus paid off, and I managed to grab the win.
In this battle, I experimented by putting Cavewise Wayfinder right in the first position, to mitigate the effect of Reckless, which then only affected the card behind him, namely Infernal Firestorm, who is well-equipped with defensive stats.
So, we can say I used Cavewise as a sacrificial card in the Tank position, and it managed to land some good hits on my opponent’s cards, but by Round 2 it was already out, and that was almost a relief.
Cavewise is a dangerous card to play, if placed in the back between two cards with low Health, it can cause a lot of damage to your own team, but having a melee attack and no abilities like Sneak, Reach or Opportunity, I think its ideal position is indeed in the first spot, maybe in a low Mana Cap battle, so it doesn’t take the place of a heavyweight like Grum Flameblade or Chaos Golem.

Nel corso delle varie edizioni di Splinterlands, abbiamo visto introdurre meccaniche sempre più raffinate e strategie via via più profonde: all'inizio c'erano solo le abilità, poi si sono aggunti i ruleset, e adesso, abbiamo le Bloodlines.
Ma è con l'arrivo dell'edizione Rebellion che il gioco ha davvero compiuto un balzo audace in una direzione completamente nuova: quella delle Debilitations. Per la prima volta, alcune carte portano con sé abilità negative, effetti che infliggono danno non solo a loro stesse, ma in certi casi anche ai propri compagni di squadra.
A prima vista, può sembrare un controsenso: perché mai un giocatore dovrebbe voler schierare una carta che si autodanneggia o danneggia il proprio team? La risposta sta in un delicato equilibrio tra rischio e potenza. Le carte con Debilitations presentano statistiche molto vantaggiose in relazione al loro costo in mana. Più salute, più attacco, più velocità… ma con un prezzo da pagare, spesso alto, e sempre da valutare con estrema attenzione.
Questa nuova meccanica ha stravolto il modo di giocare, spingendo i giocatori a pensare in modo ancora più strategico. Le Debilitations obbligano a ripensare la sinergia del team, cercando composizioni che non solo riescano a bilanciare il danno autoinflitto, ma che magari possano addirittura trasformarlo in un vantaggio tattico.
In questo post andremo a parlare di una nuova carta Conclave Arcana, che possiede una nuova Debilitation, e vedremo e se è utile usarla e in quali circostanze.
Cavewise Wayfinder: carte Common dell'elemento Fire e della Bloodline Gnome (come il nuovo archon Razi Clanktrap), costa 6 mana, e al livello 1 possiede 4 di Armr, 7 di Health, 3 di Speed , 2 di Melee, e l'abilità Ambush, ma, purtroppo, porta con sè anche la nuova Debilation di nome Reckless, che infligge un danno fisico di 1 , per ogni colpo portato a segno da Cavewise, ad ogni compagno di squadra adiacente.
Con i vari potenziamenti di livello aumenta le proprie stats, e guadagna anche Void al livello 5 e Enrage all'ultimo livello, ovvero il 10.
Il prezzo sul mercato oggi è super economico, ed è sotto i 0,1 $: evidentemente questa carta non ha ancora riscontrato il favore del pubblico che forse si è spaventato davanti al suo rapporto qualità/costo in mana e potenziale danno alla squadra provocato.

Sfida a basso Mana Cap, solo 24, con il ruleset Ferocity, per cui io ho deciso di puntare molti mana sul'archon, scegliendo Lorkus, e andando un po' a risparmio sui mostri in campo: in posizione Tank ho messo proprio Cavewise Wayfinder, potenziato al livello 3, seguito da Infernal Firestorm, Surly Drunk ed Elanor Bravefoot.
Il mio avversario, invece, ha scelto l'archon Prunda Undervesch, con Halfling Refugee in prima posizione, seguito da Nimbledook Explorer, Shock Trooper, Razorhound, Archer Koi, e , per finire, Mar Toren Trader.
Di solito sono io a coprire tutti i posti in squadra, ma questa volta è stato il mio avversario che è riuscito ad occupare tutti e 6 i posti in squadra, scegliendo forse carte un po' troppo economiche, ed un archon che non dava nessun Buff o Debuff.
Invece, la mia scelta di puntare su un archon come Lorkus mi ha premiato e sono riuscito ad agguantare questa vittoria.
In questa sfida ho sperimentato mettendo Cavewise Wayfinder proprio in prima posizione, per tamponare la Reckless, che così ha coinvolto solo la carta dietro di lui, ovvero Infernal Firestorm, che comunque è ben piazzato a livello di stats difensive.
Quindi, possiamo dire che ho usato Cavewise come carta sacrificale in posizione Tank, e è riuscito ad infierire dei bei colpi alle carte del mio avversario, ma già al Round 2 è uscito di scena, ed è quasi stato un sollievo.
Cavewise è una carta pericolosa da giocare, se messa nelle retrovie tra due carte con pochi punti Health, può provocare tanti danni alla propria squadra, ma avendo un attacco melee e nessuna abilità come Sneak, Reach o Opportunity, penso che la sua posizione ideale sia proprio alla prima posizione, magari in una sfida a basso Mana Cap, per non rubare il posto ad un Heavyweight come Grum Flameblade o Choas Golem.
