Focus on Reflection Shield Ability Part 2: Battles and Strategies
Splinterlands is a fun player Vs player (PvP) game because every battle is different from every other because:
- there are many cards to choose from
- each card has stats and abilities that increase as the card's level increases
- each battle can have a Ruleset or two that positively or negatively affect the stats and abilities of the cards sent into battle.
So winning a Splinterlands battle is never an easy or obvious victory, and a battle formation that has a higher dollar value than another is not necessarily always the one that wins a battle because often the combination of Rulesets + Card Abilities carries more weight than the overall dollar value of the cards deployed in battle.
In the post that I published 20 days ago, I explained the importance of having cards with the Reflection Shield ability in one's card collection, showed some possible strategies to use in battle, and showed the cards with the Reflection Shield ability that I decided to purchase.

Twenty days ago I spent about 15K DEC and purchased the following cards:
- Venator Kinjo of level 2.
- Tide Biter of level 6
- Corsair Bosun of level 1
After my purchase I tested the battle usefulness of these cards and today I want to show some battles that I played in Gold league so that I can show how useful the cards with the Reflection Shield ability are in battle and at the same time I can complete the discussion of the Reflection Shield topic that I covered theoretically in my previous post.
Before showing the battles in which I used the cards I listed above I briefly explain what the Reflection Shield ability is and what Rulesets it becomes particularly useful in.
The Reflection Shield ability
A card that has the Reflection Shield ability is immune to all indirect or reflective attacks and therefore will not take damage from indirect attacks from cards that have the Blast, Thorns, Return Fire and Magic Reflect abilities.
This implies that even the Amplify ability of an opponent's card will not produce negative effects on a card that has the Reflection Shield ability.
Using a card with the Reflection Shields ability is especially useful in battles that have Rulset Explosive Weaponry because all cards in battle acquire the Blast ability.
Using a card that has the Reflection Shields ability is also useful in battles that have Rulesets:
- Briar Patch (All Monsters have the Thorns ability): in case the card with the Reflection Shields ability has a melee attack
- Counterspell (All Monsters have the Magic Reflect ability): in case the card with the Reflection Shields ability has a magic attack
- Fire & Regret (All Monsters have the Return Fire ability): in case the card with the Reflection Shields ability has a ranged attack
Reflection Shield: Battles and Strategies
I have selected some battles I have played that I hope will be useful in showing the usefulness of cards that have the Reflection Shield ability.
The Reflection Shield ability in battles with Ruleset Explosive Weaponery
When the Ruleset is Explosive Weaponery all cards acquire the Blast ability.
My first goal in a battle that has the Explosive Weaponery ruleset is to prevent enemy cards from attacking my cards that are in positions two through five because in this unfortunate circumstance they would be able to hit three of my cards with each attack.
To achieve my goal and as a basic strategy I like to use cards that have the Taunt ability to be placed:
- in first position
- in last position (alternative 1)
- in first and last position (alternative 2)
I have schematized this basic strategy with the three possible variations in the following diagram.
A card with the Taunt ability will attract all the opponent's attacks, so the best combination is to put in second position a card with the Reflection Shield ability that will act as a "wall" to the indirect attacks of the Blast ability of the opponent's cards.
In the case where I choose to put the card with the Taunt ability in the sixth position, the position for the card with the Reflection Shield ability is the second-to-last position instead of the second position.
The battle in the following image shows all the usefulness of this strategy against opponents who do not use cards with the Reflection Shield ability in battle.
I used The Kraken in first position which attracts all enemy attacks (Taunt) but also has great resistance to attacks (14 life points + 3 armor points).
In support of The Kraken I put:
- River Hellondale (Resurrect ability) to resurrect The Kranken in case he is eliminated
- Tortisian Chief (Tank Heal) to heal The Kraken's life points each round of the game.
As the card with the Reflection Shield ability, I chose Tide Biter (second position).
Although my opponent starts with a higher number of life points, number of armor points and number of attack points than mine already in the first round he loses his initial advantage and also loses the card with the largest magic attack.
Using Tide Biter allows me to avoid 6 indirect attacks and only in the first round of the game.
The battle ends in round 3 with a victory for me, and Tide Biter was a key pawn and showed all its usefulness in battle.
The advantage against opponents who do not have cards with the Reflection Shield ability is almost always huge but what happens if the opponent also uses a card with the Reflection Shield ability?
The following battle shows this precise situation.
In this case it becomes important to also use cards that are able to attack in positions other than the first and thus cards that have the Opportunity, Sneak, Snipe and even Scattershot abilities.
There are many possible strategies such as the two strategies in the following two diagrams.
In the following three battles the choice of using cards capable of attacking the second lines instead of the card in the first position was a winning choice.
The Reflection Shield ability in a battle with the Ruleset Briar Patch
When the battle rule is Briar Patch (All Monsters have the Thorns ability) it is inadvisable to use melee attack cards but it is highly advisable to field melee attack cards that have the Reflection Shield ability such as Tide Biter.
I chose to share the following battle to show that cards with the Reflection Shield ability are also very useful against tanks without attack such as Lord Arianthus.
In the small clip below you can see how Lord Arianthus' Thorns ability has no negative effect on Tide Biter.
The importance of cards with the Reflection Shield ability
To recap cards with Reflection Shield ability are really useful in battle and particularly when rulesets are:
- Explosive Weaponery: All cards with Reflection Shield Ability.
- Briar Patch (All Monsters have the Thorns ability): Venator Kinjo, Tide Biter, Corsair Bosun
- Counterspell (All Monsters have the Magic Reflect ability): Oshuur Constantia, Revealer, Water Caller
- Fire & Regret (All Monsters have the Return Fire ability): Runic Skyclaw, Ash Mirage
Cards with the Reflection Shield ability are useful in battle against summoners such as Yodin Zaku, mylor Crowling, Lir Deepswimmet, Ilthain and Ownster Rotwell.
Cards with the Reflection Shield ability are useful in battle against cards that have abilities that allow reflective or indirect attacks such as Lord Arianthus, Cornealus and Countess Sinash.
Until a few days ago there were only eight cards that had the Reflection Shield ability, and in the following two images you can see them all with an indication
- of the level at which they acquire the Reflection Shield ability
- Of the starting league in which you can use the Reflection Shield ability
There are now 9 cards that have the Reflection Shield ability because there is also the legendary card Kain Hace that has the Reflection Shield ability along with the Blast ability from level 1.
When I did not have cards with the Reflection Shield ability I almost always lost against players who used them in battles with the Explosive Weaponery ruleset.
After my latest purchases (Venator Kinjo, Tider Biter and Corsair Bosun) and in the first 11 battles I played in Gold league with the Explosive Weaponery ruleset I won 10 out of 11 battles.
If you don't have cards with the Reflection Shield ability and want to increase your win rate you need to consider and think about buying at least one.
The most usable card as a neutral card is the Venator Kinjo card that acquires the Reflection Shield ability as early as level 1.
Riftwachers cards with the Reflection Shield ability are very strong but cost more on average with the exception of Corsair Bosun at level 1 which in my opinion is a very good buy considering the utility/cost ratio.
In this post I have tried to show the practical battle use of some cards with the Reflection Shield ability and have shown some strategies and combos that are only a part of the possible ones.

Splinterlands è un gioco player Vs player (PvP) divertente perchè ogni battaglia è diversa da ogni altra perchè:
- ci sono tante carte tra cui scegliere
- ogni carta ha statistiche e abilità che aumentano con l'aumentare del livello
- ogni battaglia può avere una Ruleset o due Rulesets che influenzano in modo positivo o negativo le statistiche e le abilità delle carte schierate in battaglia.
Quindi una battaglia in una determinata lega di gioco non ha mai un esito scontato e una formazione di battaglia che ha un valore in dollari maggiore rispetto ad un'altra non è detto che sia sempre quella che vince una battaglia perchè spesso la combinazione di Rulesets + Abilità delle carte ha un peso maggiore del valore in dollari complessivo delle carte schierate in battaglia.

Venti giorni fa ho speso circa 15K DEC e ho acquistato le seguenti carte:
- Venator Kinjo di livello 2
- Tide Biter di livello 6
- Corsair Bosun di livello 1
Dopo il mio acquisto ho testato l'utilità in battaglia di queste carte e oggi voglio mostrare alcune battaglie che ho giocato in lega Gold in modo da mostrare quanto sono utili in battaglia le carte con l'abilità Reflection Shield e allo stesso tempo posso completare la trattazione dell'argomento Reflection Shiedl che ho affrontato in modo teorico nel mio precedente post.
Prima di mostrare le battaglie in cui ho utilizzato le carte che ho elencato sopra spiego brevemente cos'è l'abilità Reflection Shield e quali sono le Rulesets in cui diventa particolarmente utile.
L'Abilità Reflection Shield
Una carta che ha l'abilità Reflection Shield è immune a tutti gli attacchi indiretti o riflettenti e quindi non subirà danni da attacchi indiretti da carte che hanno le abilità Blast, Thorns, Return Fire e Magic Reflect.
Questo vuol dire che anche l'abilità Amplify di una carta avversaria non produrrà effetti negativi su una carta che ha l'abilità Reflection Shield.
Utilizzare una carta con l'abilità Reflection Shields è particolarmente utile in battaglie che hanno la Rulset Explosive Weaponry perchè tutte le carte in battaglia acquisiscono l'abilità Blast.
Utilizzare una carta che ha l'abilità Reflection Shields è utile anche in battaglie che hanno le Rulesets:
- Briar Patch (All Monsters have the Thorns ability): nel caso la carta con l'abilità Reflection Shields ha un attacco da mischia
- Counterspell (All Monsters have the Magic Reflect ability): nel caso la carta con l'abilità Reflection Shields ha un attacco magico
- Fire & Regret (All Monsters have the Return Fire ability): nel caso la carta con l'abilità Reflection Shields ha un attacco dalla distanza
Reflection Shield: Battles and Strategies
Utilizzare una carta con l'abilità Reflection Shield è particolarmente utile quando la Ruleset è Explosive Weaponery.
Ho selezionato alcune battaglie che ho giocato e che spero possano essere utili per mostrare l'utilità delle carte che hanno l'abilità Reflection Shield.
L'abilità Reflection Shield in battaglie con la Ruleset Explosive Weaponery
Quando la Ruleset è Explosive Weaponery tutte le carte acquisiscon l'abilità Blast.
Il mio primo obiettivo in una battaglia che ha la ruleset Explosive Weaponery è evitare che le carte nemiche possano attaccare le mie carte nelle posizioni dalla seconda alla quinta perchè in questa sfortunata circostanza riuscirebbero a colpire tre delle mie carte ad ogni attacco.
Per raggiungere il mio obiettivo e come strategia di base mi piace utilizzare carte che hanno l'abilità Taunt da posizionare:
- in prima posizione
- in ultima posizione (alternativa 1)
- in prima e ultima posizione (alternativa 2)
Ho schematizzato questa strategia di base con le tre varianti possibili nello schema seguente.
Una carta con l'abiltià Taunt attirerà tutti gli attacchi avversari e quindi l'abbinamento migliore è quello di mettere in seconda posizione una carta con l'abilità Reflection Shield che farà da "muro" agli attacchi indiretti dell'abilità Blast delle carte avversarie.
Nel caso in cui scelgo di mettere in sesta posizione la carta con l'abilità Taunt la posizione per la carta con l'abilità Reflection Shield è la penultima invece della seconda.
La battaglia nell'immagine seguente mostra tutta l'utilità di questa strategia contro avversari che non utilizzano in battaglia carte con l'abilità Reflection Shield.
Ho utilizzato The Kraken in prima posizione che attira tutti gli attacchi nemici (Taunt) ma ha anche una grande resistenza agli attacchi (14 punti vita + 3 punti armatura).
A supporto di The Kraken ho messo:
- River Hellondale (Resurrect ability) per resuscitare The Kranken nel caso viene eliminato
- Tortisian Chief (Tank Heal) per curare i punti vita di The Kraken ad ogni round di gioco.
Come carta con l'abilità Reflection Shield ho scelto Tide Biter (seconda posizione).
Nonostante il mio avversario parte con un numero di punti vita, un numero di punti armatura e un numero di punti di attacco superiori ai miei già nel primo round perde il suo vantaggio iniziale e perde anche la carta con l'attacco magico più grande.
L'utilizzo di Tide Biter mi permette di evitare 6 atacchi indiretti e solo nel primo round di gioco.
La battaglia termina al terzo round con una mia vittoria e Tide Biter è stato una pedina fondamentale e ha mostrato tutta la sua utilità in battaglia.
Il vantaggio contro avversari che non hanno carte con l'abilità Reflection Shield è quasi sempre enorme ma cosa succede se anche l'avversario utilizza una carta con l'abilità Reflection Shield?
La battaglia seguente mostra proprio questa situazione.
In questo caso diventa importante utilizzare anche carte che sono in grado di attaccare nelle posizioni diverse dalla prima e quindi le carte che hanno le abilità Opportunity, Sneak, Snipe e anche Scattershot
Le strategie possibili sono molte come ad esempio le due strategie nei due schemi seguenti.
Nelle seguenti tre battaglie la scelta di utilizzare carte capaci di attaccare le seconde linee invece della carta in prima posizione è stata una scelta vincente.
L'abilità Reflection Shield in una battaglia con la Ruleset Briar Patch
Quando la regola di battaglia è Briar Patch (All Monsters have the Thorns ability) è scosigliabile usare carte con attacco da mischia ma è altamente consigliabile schierare carte con attacco da mischia che hanno l'abilità Reflection Shield come ad esempio Tide Biter.
Ho scelto di condividere la battaglia seguente per mostrare che le carte con l'abilità reflection Shield sono molto utili anche contro tank senza attacco come Lord Arianthus.
Nella piccolo filmato seguente puoi vedere come l'abilità Thorns di Lord Arianthus non ha nessun effetto negativo su Tide Biter.
L'importanza delle carte con l'abilità Reflection Shield
Le carte con l'abilità Reflection Shield sono davvero utili in battaglia e in particolare quando le rulesets sono:
- Explosive Weaponery: All cards with Reflection Shield Ability
- Briar Patch (All Monsters have the Thorns ability): Venator Kinjo, Tide Biter, Corsair Bosun
- Counterspell (All Monsters have the Magic Reflect ability): Oshuur Costantia, Revealer, Water Caller
- Fire & Regret (All Monsters have the Return Fire ability): Runic Skyclaw, Ash Mirage
Le carte con l'abilità Reflection Shield sono utili in battaglia contro evocatori come Yodin Zaku, mylor Crowling, Lir Deepswimmet, Ilthain e Ownster Rotwell.
Le carte con l'abilità Reflection Shield sono utili in battaglia contro carte che hanno abilità che permettono attacchi riflettenti o indiretti come ad esempio Lord Arianthus, Cornealus e Countess Sinash.
Fino a pochi giorni fa c'erano solo otto carte che avevano l'abilità Reflection Shield e nelle due immagini seguenti puoi vederle tutte con l'indicazione:
- del livello in cui acquisiscono l'abilità Reflection Shield
- della lega di partenza in cui è possibile utilizzare l'abilità Reflection Shield
Adesso sono 9 le carte che hanno l'abilità Reflection Shield perchè c'è anche la carta leggendaria Kain Hace che ha l'abilità Reflection Shield insieme all'abilità Blast dal livello 1.
Quando non avevo carte con l'abilità Reflection Shield perdevo quasi sempre contro giocatori che le utilizzavano nelle battaglie con la ruleset Explosive Weaponery.
Dopo i miei ultimi acquisti (Venator Kinjo, Tider Biter e Corsair Bosun) e nelle prime 11 battaglie che ho giocato in lega Gold con la ruleset Explosive Weaponery ho vinto 10 battaglie su 11.
Se non hai carte con l'abilità Reflection Shield e vuoi aumentare il tuo win rate devi valutare e pensare di acquistarne almeno una.
La carta più utilizzabile in quanto carta neutrale è la carta Venator Kinjo che acquisisce l'abilità Reflection Shield già dal livello 1.
Le carte Riftwachers con l'abilità Reflection Shield sono molto forti ma costano mediamente di più ad esclusione di Corsair Bosun di livello 1 che secondo me è un ottimo acquisto considerando il rapporto utilità/costo.
In questo post ho cercato di mostrare l'utilizzo pratico in battaglia di alcune carte con l'abilità Reflection Shield e ho mostrato alcune strategie e combos che sono solo una parte di quelle possibili.
