Is Splinterlands a Good Investment? 18 Months Later...
I became a happy Splinterlands player on October 19, 2019 when I decided to pay the $10 entry fee that many months ago was called Starter Set while now it is called Spell Book.
Since October 19, 2019 more than 18 months have passed (exactly 18 months and 14 days) and after all these months Splinterlands is still my favourite blockchain based game.
Almost always, games based on blockchains are never just games but can also be considered real investments.
This dual game/investment aspect is especially applicable to Splinterlands.
Splinterlands in fact offers
- the possibility to receive cards completely free of charge from the completion of daily quests and from the completion of fortnightly quests (the Splinterland seasons)
- the possibility to buy and sell NFTs (game cards)
- the ability to buy and sell the game's native tokens (Dark Energy Crystal)
- the possibility to generate passive income by using DEC tokens in the farms of some DeFi projects like: CubFinance (https://cubdefi.com/) or Uniswap.
So far Splinterlands has proven to be for me not only a fun game but above all a good investment.
For this reason I write a report every month in which I completely leave out the strategic and playful aspect of Splinterlands and exclusively consider the financial aspect of Hive's most famous card game.

Final Result Previous Report
As with all my previous reports, the starting point for this latest Splinterlands monthly report of mine is the result I recorded in my previous monthly report.
In the following two graphs you can see the Profit and ROI that I recorded last month in my previous report.
After a little more than 17 months I had a total profit of 687.68 $ and a ROI of 246.69 %.
Now it's time to check whether after a further month my profit has increased in value or decreased in value.
Valuation of Splinterlands as an Investment
(after 18 months)
Below I will calculate the total costs I have incurred to date and the total revenue I have earned to date.
Total investment cost
From the date of my last report (March 26, 2021) and until today May 3, 2021 I have purchased 24 packs of Untamed cards from the https://hive-engine.com/ marketplace because I found really good prices.
I spent a total of 45.28 HIVE which at the time of my purchase had a value of 34.27 $.
For this reason, the total cost of my investment has increased and is now the sum:
total investment cost previous report + cost of buying 24 packs of Untamed cards
278,76 $ + 34.27 $ = 313.03 $.
Revenues
In the game of Splinterlands the revenues consists of:
- the market value of the Cards that compose a collection of cards
- the value obtained from the sale of the cards
- the value of the DEC (Dark Energy Crystal) tokens accumulated and not reinvested.
- the value obtained from the sale of the DEC tokens.
- the market value of the purchased plots.
- The value obtained from the sale of the plots.
- The value obtained from the use of DEC tokens in a Farm.
How much are my cards worth?
To find out the total dollar value of my card collection, I always use the Peakmonsters website (https://peakmonsters.com/@libertycrypto27/collection), which in the Collection section provides a calculation of the value of my card collection.
The peakmonsters site calculates the value of my collection based on two different prices: Market prices and List prices.
To calculate the value of my card collection I always consider the lower of:
- the total value using Market Prices.
- the total value using List Prices.
Note: In the calculation of revenues these two values are estimated values because they both consider the case in which all cards are sold at the indicated prices.
In reality, there are cards that are easier to sell and others that are less easy to sell, even though up to now I have always managed to sell all the cards I put on the market at the lowest market price.
If I wanted to calculate the precise value of my card collection I would have to consider only the BID Price (the immediately monetizable value) for each card in my collection and the calculation would become very time consuming because I have 1447 cards in my collection (4163 BCX) and for this reason I am content with an approximation.
The value of my card collection has also increased this month: + $344.81 compared to the value I recorded in the previous month.
A higher increase compared to the previous month, but in small part due to the value of the cards I found inside the 24 packs of Untamed cards.
How much are the DEC tokens I have in my wallet worth?
The DEC (Dark Energy Crystal) are the Tokens native to the game of Splinterlands that can be used to buy various elements of the game (cards, potions, card packs, plots...) or can be sold and bought on HiveEngine/LeoDex or can be used on certain farms (DeFi).
For each battle won, every Splinterlands player receives a certain amount of DEC tokens as a reward, which depends on several factors:
- the rating
- the level of the guild they belong to (Guild Bonus)
- the use of specific cards in battle (Gold, Promo, Alpha)
- the consecutive number of battle victories (Streak Bonus)
Thanks to my gaming activity, the cards I sold this month, the completion of daily quests and the Splinterlands end-of-season rewards, I have a total of 84054 DEC tokens in my Splinterlands internal wallet (previous month: 68367 DEC tokens).
Today May 3, 2021, the dollar value of 84054 DEC is 84.11 $ (Highest Bid on LeoDex/HiveEngine)
Returns from the sale of DEC tokens on Hive Engine
I have almost always used DEC tokens to buy cards to add to my collection, and on one occasion I sold DEC tokens in exchange for HIVE tokens.
On October 5, 2020, I sold 81000 DEC tokens on the Hive Engine marketplace and received 400.14 HIVE in exchange for a value at the time of sale of 64.8 $.
How much are my Plots worth?
On November 21, 2020 I purchased 3 Plots at a price of 7500 DEC each for a total cost of 22500 DEC whose $ value at the time of purchase was 19.66 $.
The plots can be purchased directly from the Splinterlands website at the price of $20 but they can also be purchased on LeoDex/HiveEngine (34 HIVE) but at the time of writing this post it is more convenient to buy them from the Splinterlands website where there is also a 20% discount for those who buy the plots using BAT tokens as payment method (last month the best price was on HiveEngine/LeoDex)
In my report I consider the value of the Highest BID on https://leodex.io/market/PLOT to be 22.20 HIVE per plot.
So the total value of the three plots in my possession is 22.20 HIVE * 3 plots = 66.6 HIVE = 43.55$ (value 26 March 2021: 23.90$)
Farm DEC-USBD LP
For the first time in my report I am including the revenue I got from Farm DEC-USBD LP at https://cubdefi.com/
In April I started using the Farm DEC-USBD on CubFinance in which I have put 23104 DEC tokens to work and so far I have earned 1,052 CUB tokens whose current value is $2,694
Profit and ROI
Now I have all the data I need (Total Costs and Total Revenues) to calculate any profit or loss I have made so far in 18 months and 14 days on Splinterlands.
Profit

Despite increasing the cost of my investment in Splinterlands the profit has increased and is my best result to date.
In fact in the previous monthly report the profit grew by $295.08 and after just over a month the profit has grown by $358.88.
As you can see from the calculations in the image below my profit after 18 months and 14 days since my registration on Splinterlands is now $1046.56 (previous report $687.68)

The profit of $1046.56 corresponds to a ROI of 334.33% (previous monthly report ROI 246.69%).
Final Considerations
For the second month in a row Splinterlands continues to amaze me.
I thought the result of the previous report was exceptional but instead the profit increased again and surpassed the previous month's result.
In almost 18 and a half months I made a profit of $1046.56 and achieved a ROI of 334.33%.
But the best aspect to consider is that I achieved this profit and ROI in the nicest way possible: by playing and having fun!
Splinterlands proves to be a great game but also a great investment!

But whoever signs up today still has a chance to make a good profit?
As is almost always the case with all successful games, those who have signed up for Splinterlands from the start have made a great investment and made a great profit.
The logical question a new player might ask themselves is this:
If I sign up today will I have the same chance of making a great profit?
I can't answer this question because I don't have the ability to predict the future (unfortunately :) but I still see a lot of potential in the game of Splinterlands.
Those who sign up now will receive fewer rewards than those who signed up a long time ago because in the past the rewards were much higher.
I continue to promote and recommend Splinterlands for the following reasons:
- it is a fun game
- It offers several earning possibilities (daily and fortnightly rewards, DEC sales, cards sales, DECs that can be used in some Farms).
- 2 upvotes per week from the @steemmonsters account on posts that participate in weekly contests
- the registration fee of 10$ is recovered entirely with the upvotes received for participating in 2-4 weekly contests (the weight of the vote depends on the quality of the post but I have never seen a post that participated in a contest without a vote from Splinterlands)
- there are lots of giveaways, there is a weekly trivia challenge and contests and giveaways on Twitter that offer the chance to get cards for free.
Not a Splinterlands player?
If you are not a Splinterlands player, you are missing out on a unique opportunity to have fun while earning cards and DEC.
Any game that allows you to buy cards and tokens is never just a game, it is also an investment.

Splinterlands è un buon investimento? 18 mesi dopo...
Sono diventato un felice giocatore di Splinterlands il 19 ottobre 2019 quando ho deciso di pagare il costo di iscrizione di 10$ che prima si chiamava Starter Set mentre ora si chiama Spell Book.
Dal 19 ottobre 2019 sono trascorsi più di 18 mesi (esattamente 18 mesi e 14 giorni) e dopo tutti questi mesi Splinterlands è ancora il mio gioco basato su blockchain preferito.
Quasi sempre i giochi basati su blockchains non sono mai semplici giochi ma possono essere considerati anche dei veri e propri investimenti.
Questo duplice aspetto gioco/investimento vale soprattutto per Splinterlands.
Splinterlands infatti prevede:
- la possibilità di ricevere carte in modo completamente gratuito dal completamento delle missioni giornaliere e dal completamento delle missioni quindicinali (le stagioni di Splinterland)
- la possibilità di comprare e di vendere NFT (le carte di gioco)
- la possibilità di comprare e di vendere i token nativi del gioco (Dark Energy Crystal)
- prevede la possibilità di generare un entrata passiva utilizzando i token DEC nelle farms di alcuni progetti DeFi come: CubFinance (https://cubdefi.com/) o Uniswap.
Fino ad oggi Splinterlands si è dimostrato per me non solo un divertente gioco ma soprattutto un buon investimento.
Per questo motivo ogni mese scrivo un report in cui tralascio completamente l'aspetto strategico e ludico del gioco di Splinterlands e considero esclusivamente l'aspetto finanziario del gioco di carte più famoso di Hive.

Come per tutti i miei report precedenti, il punto di partenza di questo mio ultimo report mensile di Splinterlands è il risultato che ho registrato nel mio report mensile precedente.
Nei due seguenti grafici puoi vedere il Profitto e il Roi che ho registrato il mese scorso nel mio precedente report.
Dopo poco più di 17 mesi ho ottenuto un profitto totale di 687,68 $ e un ROI del 246,69 %.
Adesso è arrivato il momento di verificare se dopo un ulteriore mese il mio profitto è cresciuto di valore oppure è diminuito di valore.
Valutazione di Splinterlands come Investimento
(dopo 18 mesi)
Di seguito calcolerò il totale dei costi che ho sostenuto fino ad oggi e il totale dei ricavi che ho ottenuto fino ad oggi.
Costo Totale Investimento
Dalla data del mio ultimo report (26 marzo 2021) e fino ad oggi 3 maggio 2021 ho acquistato 24 pacchi di carte Untamed dal mercato di https://hive-engine.com/ perchè ho trovato prezzi davvero vantaggiosi.
Ho speso un totale di 45.28 HIVE che al momento del mio acquisto avevano un valore di 34.27 $.
Per questo motivo il costo totale del mio investimento è aumentato e adesso è dato dalla somma:

I Ricavi
Nel gioco di Splinterlands i ricavi sono costituiti da:
- il valore di mercato delle Carte che compongono una collezione di carte
- il valore ottenuto dalla vendita delle carte
- il valore dei token DEC (Dark Energy Crystal) accumulati e non reinvestiti.
- il valore ottenuto dalla vendita dei token DEC.
- il valore sul mercato dei plots acquistati.
- Il valore ottenuto dalla vendita dei Plots.
- Il valore ottenuto dall'utilizzo dei token DEC in una Farm.
Quanto valgono le mie carte?
Per conoscere il valore totale in dollari della mia collezione di carte utilizzo sempre il sito Peakmonsters (https://peakmonsters.com/@libertycrypto27/collection) che all'interno della sezione Collection fornisce il calcolo del valore della mia collezione di carte.
Il sito di peakmonsters calcola il valore della mia collezione in base a due prezzi diversi: Prezzi di mercato e Prezzi di Listino.
Per calcolare il valore della mia collezione di carte considero sempre il valore minore tra:
- il valore totale usando i Prezzi di Mercato.
- il valore totale usando i Prezzi di Listino.
Nota: Nel calcolo dei ricavi questi due valori sono valori stimati perchè entrambi considerano il caso in cui le carte vengano vendute tutte ai prezzi indicati.
In realtà ci sono carte più facili da vendere e altre meno anche se fino ad ora sono sempre riuscito a vendere tutte le carte che ho messo sul mercato al più basso prezzo di mercato.
Se volessi calcolare il preciso valore della mia collezione di carte dovrei considerare solo il Prezzo BID (il valore immediatamente monetizzabile) per ogni carta della mia collezione e il calcolo diventerebbe molto dispendioso in termini di tempo perchè ho 1447 carte nella mia collezione (4163 BCX) e per questo motivo mi accontento di un'approssimazione.
Il valore della mia collezione di carte è cresciuto anche in questo mese: + 344.81$ rispetto al valore che ho registrato nel mese precedentente.
Un incremente superiore al mese precedente ma frutto anche delle carte che ho trovato all'interno dei 24 pacchi di carte Untamed.
Quanto valgono i token DEC che ho sul mio wallet?
I DEC (Dark Energy Crystal) sono i Token nativi del gioco di Splinterlands che possono essere utilizzati per comprare diversi elementi del gioco (carte, pozioni, pacchi di carte, plots...) oppure possono essere venduti e comprati su HiveEngine/LeoDex oppure possono essere utilizzati in alcune farm (DeFi).
Per ogni battaglia vinta ogni giocatore di Splinterlands riceve come ricompensa un certo quantitativo di token DEC che dipende da diversi fattori:
- dal rating
- dal livello della gilda di appartenenza (Bonus della Gilda)
- dall'utilizzo in battaglia di specifiche carte (Gold, Promo, Alpha)
- dal numero consecutivo di vittorie in battaglia (Streak Bonus)
Grazie alla mia attività di gioco, alle carte che ho venduto in questo mese, al completamento delle missioni giornaliere e grazie alle ricompense di fine stagione di Splinterlands ho accumulato sul mio wallet interno di Splinterlands un totale di 84054 token DEC (mese precedente: 68367 token DEC).
Oggi 3 maggio 2021, il valore in dollari di 84054 DEC è di 84,11 $ (Highest Bid su LeoDex/HiveEngine)
Ricavi dalla vendita di token DEC su Hive Engine
Ho quasi sempre utilizzato i token DEC per comprare carte da aggiungere alla mia collezione e in un'unica occasione ho venduto i token DEC in cambio di token HIVE.
Il 5 Ottobre 2020 ho venduto 81000 DEC sul mercato di Hive Engine e ho ricevuto in cambio 400,14 HIVE per un valore al momento della vendita di 64,8 $.
Quanto valgono i miei Plots?
Il 21 novembre 2020 ho acquistato 3 Plots al prezzo di 7500 DEC l'uno per un costo totale di 22500 DEC il cui valore in $ al momento dell'acquisto era di 19,66 $.
I plots possono essere acquistati direttamente dal sito di Splinterlands al prezzo di 20$ ma possono essere acquistati anche su LeoDex/HiveEngine (34 HIVE) ma nel momento in cui scrivo questo post conviene di più acquistarli dal sito di Splinterlands dove c'è anche uno sconto del 20% per chi acquista i plots utilizzando i token BAT come metodo di pagamento (il mese scorso il prezzo più vantaggioso era invece su HiveEngine/LeoDex)
Nel mio report considero il valore della migliore offerta di acquisto (Highest BID) su https://leodex.io/market/PLOT che è di 22.20 HIVE per plot.
Quindi il valore totale dei tre Plots in mio possesso è di 22.20 HIVE * 3 plots = 66.6 HIVE = 43.55$ (valore 26 marzo 2021: 23.90$)
Farm DEC-USBD LP
Per la prima volta nel mio report inserisco i ricavi che ho ottenuto dalla Farm DEC-USBD LP del sito https://cubdefi.com/
Nel mese di aprile ho iniziato ad usare la Farm DEC-USBD su CubFinance in cui ho messo a lavorare 23104 token DEC e fino ad ora ho guadagnato 1.052 token CUB il cui valore attuale è di 2.694$
Adesso un pò di calcoli...
Adesso ho tutti i dati che mi servono (Totale Costi e Totale Ricavi) per calcolare l'eventuale profitto o l'eventuale perdita che ho ottenuto fino ad ora e precisamente in 18 mesi e 14 giorni su Splinterlands.
Profit

Nonostante ho aumentato il costo del mio investimento su Splinterlands il profitto è cresciuto ed è il mio risultato migliore registrato fino ad oggi.
Infatti nel report mensile precedente il profitto era cresciuto di 295.08 $ mentre dopo poco più di un mese il profitto è cresciuto di 358.88 $.
Come puoi vedere dai calcoli nell'immagine seguente il mio profitto dopo 18 mesi e 14 giorni dalla mia iscrizione su Splinterlands è adesso di 1046.56$ $ (report precedente 687.68 $)

Al profitto di 1046.56$ corrisponde un ROI del 334.33% (ROI report mensile precedente 246.69%).
Considerazioni Finali
Per il secondo mese consecutivo Splinterlands continua a stupirmi.
Credevo che il risultato del report precedente fosse eccezionale e invece il profitto è aumentato ancora e ha superato il risultato del mese precedente.
In quasi 18 mesi e mezzo ho ottenuto un profitto di 1046.56 $ e ho ottenuto un ROI del 334.33%.
Ma l'aspetto più bello da considerare è che ho ottenuto questo profitto e questo ROI nel modo più bello possibile: giocando e divertendomi!
Splinterlands si riconferma di essere un bel gioco ma anche un ottimo investimento!

Ma chi si iscrive oggi ha ancora la possibilità di fare un buon profitto?
Come quasi sempre succede per tutti i giochi che riscuotono un buon successo, chi si è iscritto fin dall'inizio a Splinterlands ha fatto un grandissimo investimento e ha realizzato un grande profitto.
La domanda logica che un nuovo giocatore potrebbe porsi è la seguente:
Se mi iscrivo oggi avrò la stessa possibilità di realizzare ottimi profitti?
La risposta a questa domanda non la posso dare perchè non ho la capacità di predire il futuro (purtroppo :).
Chi si iscrive adesso riceverà meno ricompense rispetto a chi si è iscritto molto tempo prima perchè in passato le ricompense erano decisamente maggiori.
Io continuo a promuovere e consigliare Splinterlands per i seguenti motivi:
- è un gioco divertente
- offre diverse possibilità di guadagno (ricompense giornaliere e quindicinali, vendita DEC, vendita Carte, DEC utilizzabili in alcune Farms)
- 2 upvotes a settimana dall'account @steemmonsters sui post che partecipano ai contest settimanali
- il costo di iscrizione di 10$ si recupera interamente con gli upvotes ricevuti per la partecipazione a 2-4 contest settimanali (il peso del voto dipende dalla qualità del post ma non ho mai visto un post che ha partecipato ad un contest senza un voto da parte di Splinterlands)
- ci sono tanti giveaway, c'è un trivia challenge settimanale e contest e giveaway su Twitter che offrono la possibilità di ottenere carte in modo gratuito.
Non sei un giocatore di Splinterlands?
Se non sei un giocatore di Splinterlands stai perdendo un'occasione più unica che rara per divertirti e allo stesso tempo guadagnare carte e DEC.
Ogni gioco che prevede l'acquisto di carte e di token non è mai un semplice gioco ma è anche un investimento.
