27 months on Splinterlands: ROI and Considerations
On October 18, 2019, I became a Splinterlands player and it's been just over twenty-seven months since that day.
After such a long time I'm still here on my beloved Hive writing and posting content related to Splinterlands which is still my favorite blockchain-based game.
For me Splinterlands has been above all a pleasant discovery.
Before playing Splinterlands I had never played a blockchain-based game and having full digital ownership of a game's assets was a wonderful novelty for me.
Among other things, before discovering Splinterlands I had always associated the term game exclusively with the term fun.
With Splinterlands I discovered that a game, if based on blockchain, could be not only fun but also a real investment.
Since October 18, 2019, I have always published a monthly report to evaluate Splinterlands exclusively from a financial perspective.
I had to stop this habit of mine for only one month and just last month due to work commitments but I'm resuming today.
Writing a financial report is useful for me to monitor my investment and it is also useful because it allows me to reason about possible future investment strategies.

Final Result Previous Report
The starting point for any of my financial reports on Splinterlands is obviously the result I recorded in my previous monthly report (December 18, 2021).
In my last report I had reported a decrease in profit and ROI from the previous month but the financial results were still very positive:
- profit: +37282.76
- ROI: +7113.13%.
Since my last report it's been 48 days and it's time to check if the Splinterlands assets in my possession have increased in value or not.
Valuation of Splinterlands as an Investment
(27 months later)
Total Cost of Investment
Note: When calculating the total cost of my investment in Splinterlands I only consider the costs I incurred by injecting external liquidity into the game.
For many months I did not put external liquidity in the game of Splinterlands and for this reason the total cost of my investment has remained unchanged for a long time.
In this report I have to record an increase in the total cost because on January 17, 2022 I purchased 660 packs of Chaos Legion cards.
Thanks to the use of VOUCHER tokens I got a total of 747 packs of cards.
I opened most of the card packs and in order to get as much value as possible from opening the packs I bought more than 5000 potions.
As you can see from the data in the image below, I spent a total of $3147.80.
However, this cost was almost totally covered by the value I got from the sale of the VOUCHER tokens during the presale and Phase 2 Chaos Legion.
From the sale of the VOUCHER tokens, I obtained a total value of 1779 SWAP.HIVE = $2437,230 which I used on January 12, 2022 to buy Credits.
To buy potions and to cover another portion of the cost of buying Chaos Legion card packs, I used DEC tokens earned from my gaming activity and my Splinterlands card rental activity.
In the image below you can see the cash transfers I put into Splinterlands in the month of January.
Based on the values of the HIVE and HBD tokens on the days I made the transfers (January 16 and 18, 2021) the total value of my liquidity that I invested on Splinterlands was $93.73.
Because of this, the total cost of my investment in Splinterlands goes up, albeit slightly, and is now $617.87.
Revenues = Total Assets Value
The total revenue obtained from my investment on Splinterlands is the result of the sum of the value of the assets in my possession (NFT and tokens):
- the sum of the market value of the Cards that compose my collection of cards
- the gain obtained from the sale of the cards and not reinvested in the game.
- the profit obtained by renting my cards to other players and not reinvested in the game.
- the value of DEC (Dark Energy Crystal) tokens accumulated and not reinvested in the purchase of other assets of Splinterlands.
- the gain from the sale of DEC tokens.
- the market value of the PLOT tokens I purchased.
- The gain from the sale of PLOT tokens.
- The gain from using DEC tokens in a Pool (DeFi).
- The value of the Splintershards (SPS) tokens I have obtained to date from the airdrop currently in progress.
- the value of the packs of cards that I have purchased and have not opened
- the profit obtained from the sale of VOUCHER tokens
How much is my card collection worth?
The basis of Splinterlands is a fun strategy game that is based on the use of playing cards (NFT).
To calculate the total value of my card collection I use the Peakmonsters site (https://peakmonsters.com/) and for my report I consider the value using market prices.
If you are a new Splinterlands player and you don't know Peakmonsters website you must absolutely use it because it is really useful ;)
The value of my cards collection is displayed inside the My Cards section of Peakmonsters (https://peakmonsters.com/@libertycrypto27/cards)
On September 16, my card collection had a value of $23249.22.
On October 12, my card collection had a value of $25293.08.
On November 3, my card collection had a value of $32166.46.
On December 18, 2021, my card collection had a value of $27409.09.
Today, February 5, 2021, my card collection has a value of $20525.96.
Although I have added many cards to my card collection the total value has decreased but this was a predictable event because with the release of the Chaos Legion card collection the number of cards in the game has increased and the value of the total cards/total players ratio has increased.
In 48 days the value of my card collection has decreased by 25.11% with a loss in dollar value of $6883.13.
How much are DEC tokens worth in my wallet?
DEC (Dark Energy Crystal) tokens are the native Tokens of the Splinterlands game and are the reward for victories achieved in in-game battles.
DEC tokens can also be found within forces which are the reward for completing daily quests and are also the reward for players' in-game achievements when finishing a Splinterlands season (every 15 days).
DEC tokens are utility tokens because they have so many use cases:
- They can be sold, bought, and transferred to:
- Hive Engine (https://hive-engine.com/?p=market&t=DEC)
- LeoDex (https://leodex.io/market/DEC)
- TribalDex (https://tribaldex.com/trade/DEC)
- can be used to buy Spellbook and game cards.
- can be used in DeFi Platforms of CubFinance (https://cubdefi.com/), UniSwap and TribalDex pools (https://tribaldex.com/).
- can be used to pay for card rentals.
- count towards the current airdrop score to receive Splinterlands governance tokens (the SPS tokens): 1 DEC token = 1 Airdrop point.
In my in-game Splinterlands wallet I have a total amount of 60816,196 DEC tokens.
In my Hive Engine wallet I have 19085,805 DEC tokens.
I use the Pools: PIZZA:DEC (APR: 105%) and SWAP.HIVE:DEC (APR: 1.717%).
Within the pools I have a total of 22793,727 DEC tokens (1716.63 + 21077.09).
The total number of DEC tokens in my possession is 102695.72 units.
Today February 5, 2022 the value of 102695.72 DEC tokens is $1480.31 (Highest Bid on LeoDex/HiveEngine/TribalDex)
Revenues from the sale of DEC tokens on Hive Engine
On October 5, 2020 I sold 81000 DEC tokens and from the sale I received 400.14 HIVE tokens in return which I used to do Power Up on my beloved Hive.
Today February 5, 2021 400 HIVE tokens have a value of $468.16.
How much are my PLOT tokens worth?
On November 21, 2020, I purchased 3 PLOTS at a great price: 7500 DEC per plot.
I spent a total of 22500 DEC whose $ value at the time of purchase was $19.66.
When I consider the current value of the DEC tokens the 3 PLOTs cost me $74.74.
The PLOT tokens have all been sold and long ago.
To calculate the value of the 3 PLOTs in my possession I need to consider the value of buying PLOT tokens on markets outside of the Splinterlands game.
Today February 5, 2021 the value of 1 PLOT is:
- 365 SWAP.HIVE = $427.05 (Highest Bid)
- 380 SWAP.HIVE = 444.60$ (Lowest Ask)
A PLOT that could be purchased at $20 at year-end 2020 can now be purchased at 444.60!
For the purpose of calculations of the economic result of my report I will consider the value of the best purchase offer (Highest BID) on https://hive-engine.com/?p=market&t=PLOT which is 365 SWAP.HIVE = $427.05.
The total value of the three PLOT tokens in my possession is therefore: 365 HIVE * 3 plots = 1095 HIVE = 1281.15$ (previous report value: 1627.50$)
The value of the 3 PLOT tokens in my possession has also decreased in 48 days time:
- -21.28%
- -346.35$
Farm DEC-USBD LP (V2)
Leofinance (https://leofinance.io/) is one of the most active communities on Hive and has created and developed a decentralized finance (DeFi) platform called CubFinance (https://cubdefi.com/).
On CubFinance I added liquidity to the DEC-BUSD LP Farm (V2) but then about two months ago I decided to remove it and put liquidity into TribalDex pools which have slightly lower APRs but have the big advantage of not having the transaction costs that Binance Smart Chain has instead.
Using the DEC-BUSD LP farm earned me: 13,242 CUB tokens (Farm V1) + 3.04 CUB tokens (Farm V2)= 16,282 CUB tokens = 16,282 * $0.257 = $4.18.
Using DEC tokens to inject liquidity into a pool has one big advantage: it doubles the DEC token score for the daily airdrop of SPS tokens.
Of the two pools I use on TribalDex only the SWAP.HIVE:DEC pool is valid for doubling DEC token points.
The 21092 DEC tokens I put in the pool allowed me to get at the time of the snapshot yesterday, February 4, 41080 points valid for the airdrop of the SPS tokens.
The value of Splintershards tokens (SPS)
The airdrop of Splintershards (SPS) tokens is in progress and has passed halfway through.
Splintershards (SPS) tokens are the governance tokens of the Splinterlands game.
After 193 days since the airdrop began, I have accumulated a total of 20746 SPS tokens.
The corresponding dollar value of 20746 SPS tokens is $2614.02.
Compared to 48 days ago the SPS tokens have also lost value and in fact although I have increased the amount of SPS tokens in my possession by +4809 units the total value has decreased: -36.20% e -1483.03$.
Value of card packs purchased but not opened
I chose to keep and not open 20 packs of cards from the Untamed collection.
Untamed card packs can only be purchased from external markets such as Hive Engine.
Today the value of an Untamed card pack is 35 SWAP.HIVE = $40.95 (Highest BID).
The total value of the 20 packs of Untamed cards in my possession is 819$$.
In 48 days the value of a pack of Untamed cards has decreased by -25.58%.
I also have 20 Chaos Legion packs yet to be opened and will do so when I get the potions I need from completing the daily quests.
The current value of a Chaos Legion card pack on Hive Engine is 2.64 SWAP.HIVE = $3.09 (Highest Bid).
So the value of my 20 packs of Chaos Legion cards is $30.90.
Value of VOUCHER tokens
The VOUCHER token is a token distributed via airdrop to SPS token stakeholders and was used to purchase 1 pack of Chaos Legion cards during the presale, during phase 2 of the sale and is still useful today but is used to get bonus packs for card pack purchases over 100 units in a single transaction.
As I wrote earlier I used all the income I got from selling VOUCHER tokens to purchase Chaos Legion card packs.
After I continued to sell the VOUCHER tokens and until today I have obtained a value of 31 SWAP.HIVE = $36.27.
A little bit of calculation...
Now I have all the data I need (costs and revenues) and I can calculate the Profit and ROI that I got from my investment on Splinterlands after 27 months of play/investment.

Considerations
I really enjoy playing Splinterlands and making a profit of $25099 for something I enjoy doing is still an excellent financial result.
Because of this I continue to be very satisfied with my investment.
By the way the decrease in value of Splinterlands assets should also be contextualized to the current situation of the blockchains "landscape".
Almost all tokens of blockchain projects have lost value in the last 3 months and also the "mother" of all cryptocurrencies (BTC) has lost a lot of value going from a value of $62k to a value of $41.4K in 90 days.
With this in mind, the decrease in value of my investment on Splinterlands does not bother me and I will continue to invest in purchasing cards to improve the strength of my card collection in battle.
I will continue to invest in Splinterlands and will continue to purchase cards and card packs when I deem the prices advantageous because I want to increase the amount of my daily and seasonal rewards and because I also want to increase the total amount of SPS tokens in my possession.
Of all the tokens connected to Splinterlands, SPS tokens are the ones that will have many more use cases in the future, many more than today and their value might increase as a result (this is not a financial advice).

Any game that involves the purchase of cards and tokens is never a simple game but it is also an investment and should be considered as such.

27 Mesi su Splinterlands: Profitto, ROI e Considerazioni
Il 18 ottobre 2019 sono diventato un giocatore di Splinterlands e da quel giorno sono passati poco più di ventisette mesi.
Dopo tanto tempo sono ancora qui sulla mia amata Hive a scrivere e pubblicare contenuti inerenti a Splinterlands che è ancora oggi il mio gioco basato su blockchain preferito.
Per me Splinterlands è stato soprattutto una piacevole scoperta.
Prima di giocare a Splinterlands non avevo mai provato un gioco basato su blockchain e avere il pieno possesso digitale degli assets di un gioco è stata per me una meravigliosa novità.
Tra l'altro prima di scoprire Splinterlands avevo sempre associato al termine gioco esclusivamente il termine divertimento.
Con Splinterlands ho scoperto che un gioco, se basato su blockchain, poteva essere non solo un divertimento ma anche un vero e proprio investimento.
Dal 18 ottobre 2019 ho sempre pubblicato un report mensile per valutare Splinterlands esclusivamente dal punto di vista finanziario.
Ho dovuto interrompere questa mia abitudine per un solo mese e proprio il mese scorso a causa di impegni lavorativi ma riprendo oggi.
Scrivere un report finanziario mi è utile per monitorare il mio investimento e mi è utile anche perchè mi permette di ragionare su possibili future strategie di investimento.

Il punto di partenza di ogni mio report finanziario su Splinterlands è ovviamente il risultato che ho registrato nel mio report mensile precedente (18 dicembre 2021).
Nel mio ultimo report avevo registrato una diminuzione del profitto e del ROI rispetto al mese precedente ma i risultati finanziari erano comunque molto positivi:

Dal mio ultimo report sono passati 48 giorni ed è arrivato il momento di controllare se gli assets di Splinterlands in mio possesso sono aumentati di valore oppure no.
Valutazione di Splinterlands come Investimento

Costo Totale Investimento
Nota: Nel calcolo del costo totale del mio investimento su Splinterlands considero solo i costi che ho sostenuto immettendo liquidità esterna al gioco.
Per molti mesi non ho immesso liquidità esterna nel gioco di Splinterlands e per questo motivo il costo totale del mio investimento è rimasto invariato per molto tempo.
In questo report invece devo registrare un incremento del costo totale perchè il 17 gennaio 2022 ho acquistato 660 pacchi di carte Chaos Legion.
Grazie all'utilizzo dei token VOUCHER ho ottenuto in totale 747 pacchi di carte.
Ho aperto la maggior parte dei pacchi di carte e per ottenere il maggior valore possibile dall'apertura dei pacchi ho comprato più di 5000 pozioni.
Come puoi vedere dai dati presenti nell'immagine seguente, ho speso in totale 3147.80$.
Questo costo è stato però quasi totalmente coperto dal valore che ho ottenuto dalla vendita dei token VOUCHER durante la prevedita e la fase 2 Chaos Legion.
Dalla vendita dei token VOUCHER ho ottenuto un valore totale di 1779 SWAP.HIVE = 2437.230$ che ho utilizzato il 12 gennaio 2022 per comprare i Crediti.
Per comprare le pozioni e per coprire un'altra parte del costo di acquisto dei pacchi di carte Chaos Legion ho utilizzato i token DEC guadagnati dalla mia attività di gioco e dalla mia attività di noleggio delle carte di Splinterlands.
Nell'immagine seguente puoi vedere i trasferimenti di liquidità che ho immesso su Splinterlands nel mese di gennaio.
In base ai valori dei token HIVE e HBD nei giorni in cui ho effettuato i trasferimenti (16 e 18 gennaio 2021) il valore totale della mia liquidità che ho investito su Splinterlands è stato di 93.73$.
Per questo motivo il costo totale del mio investimento su Splinterlands sale anche se di poco è di 617.87$
I Ricavi = Valore Totale Assets
Il totale dei ricavi ottenuti dal mio investimento su Splinterlands è il risultato della somma del valore degli assets in mio possesso (NFT e tokens).
Quanto vale la mia collezione di carte?
Alla base del gioco di Splinterlands c'è un divertente gioco di strategia che si basa sull'utilizzo di carte di gioco (NFT).
Per calcolare il valore totale della mia collezione di carte utilizzo il sito di Peakmonsters (https://peakmonsters.com/) e per il mio report considero il valore utilizzando i prezzi di mercato.

Oggi 5 febbraio 2021 la mia collezione di carte ha un valore di 20525.96$
Nonostante ho aggiunto molte carte alla mia collezione di carte il valore totale è diminuito ma questo era un evento prevedibile perchè con il rilascio della collezione di carte Chaos Legion sono aumentate le carte immesse nel gioco ed è aumentato il valore del rapporto totale carte/totale giocatori.
In 48 giorni il valore della mia collezione di carte è diminuito del 25.11% con una perdita di valore in dollari di -6883.13$.
Quanto valgono i token DEC nel mio wallet?
I token DEC (Dark Energy Crystal) sono i Token nativi del gioco di Splinterlands e sono la ricompensa per le vittorie ottenute nelle battaglia di gioco.
I token DEC si possono trovare anche all'interno dei forzieri che sono la ricompensa per il completamento delle missioni giornaliere e sono anche la ricompensa per i risultati di gioco ottenuti dai giocatori nel momento in cui si conclude una stagione di Splinterlands (ogni 15 giorni).
I token DEC sono degli utility token perchè hanno tanti casi d'uso.
Nel mio wallet interno al gioco di Splinterlands ho un quantitativo totale di 60816.196 token DEC.
Nel mio wallet su Hive Engine ho 19085.805 token DEC.
Utilizzo le Pools: PIZZA:DEC (APR: 105%) e SWAP.HIVE:DEC (APR: 1.717%).
All'interno delle pools ho un totale di 22793.727 token DEC (1716.63 + 21077.09).

Ricavi dalla vendita dei token DEC su Hive Engine
Il 5 ottobre 2020 ho venduto 81000 token DEC e dalla vendita ho ricevuto in cambio 400,14 token HIVE che ho utilizzato per fare Power Up sulla mia amata Hive.
Oggi 5 febbraio 2021 400 token HIVE hanno un valore di 468.16$.
Quanto valgono i miei token PLOT?
Il 21 novembre 2020 ho acquistato 3 PLOTS ad un ottimo prezzo: 7500 DEC per plot.
Ho speso in totale 22500 DEC il cui valore in $ al momento dell'acquisto era di 19,66 $.
Se considero il valore attuale dei token DEC i 3 PLOT mi sono costati 74.74$.
I token PLOT sono stati tutti venduti e già da molto tempo.
Per valutare il valore dei 3 PLOT in mio possesso devo considerare il valore di acquisto dei token PLOT sui mercati esterni al gioco di Splinterlands.
Oggi 5 febbraio 2021 il valore di 1 PLOT è di:
- 365 SWAP.HIVE = 427.05$ (Highest Bid)
- 380 SWAP.HIVE = 444.60$ (Lowest Ask)
Un PLOT che poteva essere acquistato a 20$ a fine anno 2020 oggi può essere acquistato a 444.60$!
Ai fini dei calcoli del risultato economico del mio report considererò il valore della migliore offerta di acquisto (Highest BID) su https://hive-engine.com/?p=market&t=PLOT che è di 365 SWAP.HIVE = 427.05$.
Il valore totale dei tre token PLOT in mio possesso è quindi di: 365 HIVE * 3 plots = 1095 HIVE = 1281.15$ (valore report precedente: 1627.50$)
Anche il valore dei 3 token PLOT in mio possesso è diminuto in 48 giorni di tempo:
- -21.28%
- -346.35$
Farm DEC-USBD LP (V2)
Leofinance (https://leofinance.io/) è una delle comunità più attive di Hive e ha creato e sviluppato una piattaforma di finanza decentralizzata (DeFi) che si chiama CubFinance (https://cubdefi.com/).
Su CubFinance ho aggiunto liquidità alla Farm DEC-BUSD LP (V2) ma poi circa due mesi fa ho deciso di toglierla e di immettere liquidità nelle pools di TribalDex che hanno APR leggermente inferiori ma hanno il grosso vantaggio di non avere i costi di transazione che ha invece la Binance Smart Chain.
L'utilizzo della farm DEC-BUSD LP mi ha fatto guadagnare: 13.242 token CUB (Farm V1) + 3.04 token CUB (Farm V2)= 16.282 token CUB = 16.282 * 0.257$ = 4.18$.
Utilizzare i token DEC per immettere liquidità in una pool ha un grande vantaggio: raddoppia il punteggio dei token DEC per l'airdrop giornaliero dei token SPS.
Delle due pools che utilizzo su TribalDex solo la pool SWAP.HIVE:DEC è valida per il raddoppio dei punti dei token DEC.
I 21092 token DEC che ho immesso nella pool mi hanno permesso di ottenere al momento dello snapshot di ieri 4 febbraio 41080 punti validi per l'airdrop dei token SPS.
Il valore dei token Splintershards (SPS)
L'airdrop dei token Splintershards (SPS) è in corso e ha superato metà del suo percorso.
I token Splintershards (SPS) sono i token di governance del gioco di Splinterlands.
Dopo 193 giorni dall'inizio dell'airdrop ho accumulato un totale di 20746 token SPS.
Il corrispondente valore in dollari di 20746 token SPS è di 2614.02$.
Rispetto a 48 giorni fa anche i token SPS hanno perso valore e infatti nonostante ho incrementato il quantitativo di token SPS in mio possesso di +4809 unità il valore totale è diminuito: -36.20% e -1483.03$.
Valore dei pacchi di carte acquistati ma non aperti
Ho scelto di conservare e non aprire 20 pacchi di carte della collezione Untamed.
I pacchi di carte Untamed possono essere acquistati solo dai mercati esterni come ad esempio Hive Engine.
Oggi il valore di un pacco di carte Untamed è di 35 SWAP.HIVE = 40.95$ (Highest BID).
Il valore totale dei 20 pacchi di carte Untamed in mio possesso è di 819$$
In 48 giorni il valore di un pacco di carte Untamed è diminuito del -25.58%.
Ho anche 20 pacchi Chaos Legion ancora da aprire e lo farò quando otterro le pozioni necessarie dal completamento delle missioni giornaliere.
Il valore attuale di un pacco di carte Chaos Legion su Hive Engine è di 2.64 SWAP.HIVE = 3.09$ (Highest Bid).
Quindi il valore dei miei 20 pacchi di carte Chaos Legion è di 30.90$.
Valore dei token VOUCHER
Il token VOUCHER è un token distribuito tramite airdrop agli stakeholders dei token SPS ed è servito per acquistare 1 pacco di carte Chaos Legion durante la prevendita, durante la fase 2 di vendita ed è utile ancora oggi ma serve per ottenere i pacchi bonus per gli acquisti dei pacchi di carte superiori alle 100 unità in un unica transazione.
Come ho scritto in precedenza ho utilizzato tutto il ricavato che ho ottenuto dalla vendita dei token VOUCHER il 18 gennaio per acquistare i pacchi di carte Chaos Legion.

Considerazioni
Dalla data del mio ultimo report (18 dicembre) ad oggi 5 febbraio, tutti gli assets di Splinterlands in mio possesso hanno perso valore e di conseguenza anche il mio profitto e il mio ROI sono diminuiti.
Giocare a Splinterlands mi piace molto e ottenere un profitto di 25099$ per un'attività che mi piace fare è comunque un eccellente risultato finanziario.
Per questo motivo continuo ad essere molto soddisfatto del mio investimento.
Tra l'altro la diminuzione di valore degli assets di Splinterlands va anche contestualizzata alla situazione attuale del panorama blockchains.
Quasi tutti i token dei progetti blockchain hanno perso valore negli ultimi 3 mesi e anche la "madre" di tutte le cryptovalute (BTC) ha perso molto valore passando da un valore di $62k ad un valore di $41.4K in 90 giorni.
In questo contesto la diminuzione di valore del mio investimento su Splinterlands non mi preoccupa e continuerò ad investire nell'acquisto di carte per migliorare la forza della mia collezione di carte in battaglia.
Continuerò ad investire su Splinterlands e continuerò ad acquistare carte e pacchi di carte quando riterrò i prezzi vantaggiosi perchè voglio aumentare il quantitativo delle mie ricompense giornaliere e stagionali e perchè voglio anche aumentare il totale dei token SPS in mio possesso.
Tra tutti i token collegati a Splinterlands, i token SPS sono quelli che avranno molti più casi d'uso in futuro, molti di più rispetto ad oggi e il loro valore potrebbe di conseguenza aumentare (non è un consiglio finanziario).

Ogni gioco che prevede l'acquisto di carte e di token non è mai un semplice gioco ma è anche un investimento e come tale va considerato.
Io non sono un consulente finanziario e se decidi di investire nel gioco di Splinterlands lo fai per tua scelta, dopo aver fatto le tue personali valutazioni e considerato tutti i possibili fattori di rischio.
