New Splinterlands Survival Game Mode Is Coming! Are You Ready?
It has been two days since I have posted on Hive and I have also been almost totally inactive even in reading posts and writing comments due to a tooth infection that literally knocked me out.
Fortunately, the antibiotic prescribed by my dentist and a good dose of anti-inflammatories have got me back on my feet and I hope to be 100% as early as tomorrow.
Today I resume my blogging activity on Hive with a post related to Splinterlands because there is an interesting new feature coming that will expand the current game modes:
- Ranked Play
- Guild Brawls
- Tournaments
- Land
- Soulkeep
On November 21, 2024 @splinterlands announced the introduction of a new game mode: the Survival Mode!
The wait is almost over because Survival Mode will be active starting tomorrow February 27, 2025 as announced by Splinterlands in this post: Survival Mode & Leaderboard Rewards Update
The Survival Mode will be a ranked play type of game mode in which cards and card choice will be important to winning battles just as it is in the game modes currently in Splinterlands.
The main difference with the Modern Format and the Wild Format will be the total absence of the energy bar.
Wanting to simplify, the new Survival Mode will be a Wild Format without the energy bar but with a different mechanism related to the ability to use cards.
In fact in Survival mode battles, cards that die in battle will enter a cooldown mode = they cannot be used in all ranked game modes (Modern Format, Wild Format, Tournaments, Brawls) for a specified period of time.
The cooldown period of cards that die in battle will depend on the rarity, level and foil of the card, and Gold foil cards will have a halved cooldown period compared to regular foil cards.
So there will be no energy bar because the cards themselves will represent energy to be able to play battles.
In the future, new potions will be introduced to revive cards that have died in battle, so these potions will not be available in the first season of Survival Mode.
There will be a reward pool in SPS tokens made available by the Splinterlands team that will have a similar working mechanism to the reward pools in the Wild and Modern formats.
There will also be 5 seasonal leaderboards rewarding the top 100 players in the Bronze, Silver, Gold, Diamond and Champion leagues with a GLINT quantitative.
My thoughts on Survival Game Mode and my preparations.
I am happy with the introduction of Survival Mode because it introduces new use cases for Splinterlands cards.
Survival Mode will be useful to restore game value especially to cards of old editions because all cards from all collections can be used in Survival mode as in Wild Format.
+ Game Modes = + Fun = + Use cases for cards and tokens.
Survival Mode could produce two positive effects:
- new interest in buying and renting cards
- new incentive to own cards in multiple copies in order to play in multiple game modes at once.
I will finally be able to use in play my Beta and Untamed cards that I have not used in a long time because I do not like to play them manually in Wild Format against bots and because I have tried to assign them to XBOT for four seasons in Wild Format but have ended all seasons at a loss because of the cost of the Wild Pass that has always exceeded the seasonal gains in SPS tokens.

To prepare for the new game mode today I removed from the rental market all my Beta and Untamed cards that did not have an active rental.
This way I will have a greater number of cards to use in Survival Mode.
I also made a selection of cards of the Chaos legion and Rebellion sets that I use very little in Modern Format and that I could use in Survival Mode because if they were to go into cooldown they would not affect my game results in Modern Format.
I really like the idea behind Survival Mode and I am glad that there will be a new game mode to use cards of all editions.
However, I personally don't like the choice of allowing bots and battle helpers in the Survival Mode because in my humble opinion any new game mode should be designed first to ensure the enjoyment of human players who want to play only against human players and then for those who like to use bots.
I am an active player on Splinterlands and have enjoyed playing manually in the Modern Format every day for more than 5 years.
The new Survival Mode will be a game mode that I will play manually as long as there are no bots.
Probably in the survival mode there will be no bots for a few days.
In the first few days I will play manually then I will use XBOT which will release the feature to play in Survival Mode soon.
Splinterlands is in my opinion a beautiful and very fun game, one of the few games in the blockchain-based game landscape that has structured and fun gameplay at its core!
I conclude this post of mine by showing my last battle played in the Modern Format which is the only format in which, in my opinion, beats the heart (gameplay) of Splinterlands and in which human players like me can have fun and I hope that in the future a version of Survival Mode without bots will be released!

La nuova modalità di gioco Survival Mode è in arrivo! Sei Pronto?
Sono due giorni che non pubblico post su Hive e sono stato anche quasi totalmente inattivo anche nella lettura dei post e nella scrittura dei commenti a causa di un infezione ad un dente che mi ha letteralmente messo KO.
Fortunatamente l'antibiotico prescritto dal mio dentista e una buona dose di anti-infiammatori mi hanno rimesso in piedi e spero di essere al 100% già da domani.
Riprendo la mia attività di blogging su Hive con un post relativo a Splinterlands perchè è in arrivo un'interessante novità che espanderà le attuali modalità di gioco:

L'attesa è praticamente finita perchè il Survival Mode sarà attivo a partire da domani 27 febbraio 2025 come annunciato da Splinterlands in questo post: Survival Mode & Leaderboard Rewards Update
Il Survival Mode sarà una modalità di gioco del tipo ranked play in cui le carte e la scelta delle carte sarà importante per vincere le battaglie esattamente come avviene nelle modalità di gioco attualmente presenti su Splinterlands.
La differenza principale con il Modern Format e con il Wild Format sarà la totale assenza della barra dell'energia.
Volendo semplificare il nuovo Survival Mode sarà un Wild Format senza la barra dell'energia ma con un meccanismo diverso relativo alla possibilità di usare le carte.
Infatti nelle Survival mode battles le carte morte in battaglia entreranno in una modalità cooldown = non potranno essere utilizzate in tutte le modalità di gioco ranked (Modern Format, Wild Format, Tournaments, Brawls) per un determinato periodo di tempo.
Il periodo di cooldown delle carte morte in battaglia dipenderà dalla rarità, dal livello e dal foil della carta e le carte Gold foil avranno un periodo di cooldown dimezzato rispetto alle carte regular foil.
Quindi non ci sarà la barra dell'energia perchè le carte stesse rappresenteranno l'energia per poter giocare le battaglie.
In futuro saranno introdotte delle nuove pozioni per far rivivere le carte morte in battaglia e quindi queste pozioni non saranno disponibili nella prima stagione del Survival Mode.
Ci sarà una reward pool in token SPS messa a disposizione dal team di Splinterlands che avrà un meccanismo di funzionamento simile alle reward pools dei formati Wild e Modern.
Ci saranno anche 5 leaderboards stagionali che premieranno i top 100 giocatori nelle leghe Bronze, Silver, Gold, Diamond e Champion con un quantitatito di GLINT.
I miei pensieri sul Survival Game Mode e i miei preparativi
Sono contento dell'introduzione del Survival Mode perchè introduce nuovi casi d'uso per le carte di Splinterlands.
Il Survival Mode sarà utile per ridare un valore di gioco soprattutto alle carte delle vecchie edizioni perchè nel Survival mode potranno essere utilizzate tutte le carte di tutte le collezioni come nel Wild Format.

Il Survival Mode potrebbe produrre due effetti postivi:
- nuovo interesse ad acquistare e noleggiare le carte
- nuovo stimolo a possedere le carte in più copie per poter giocare in più modalità di gioco contemporaneamente.
Io potrò finalmente utilizzare in gioco le mie carte Beta e Untamed che non utilizzavo da tempo perchè non mi piace giocare manualmente nel Wild Format contro i bots e perchè ho provato ad affidarle a XBOT per quattro stagioni nel Wild Format ma ho chiuso tutte le stagioni in perdita a causa del costo del Wild Pass che ha sempre superato i guadagni stagionali in token SPS.

Per prepararmi alla nuova modalità di gioco oggi ho rimosso dal noleggio tutte le mie carte Beta e Untamed che non avevano un noleggio attivo.
In questo modo avrò un numero maggiore di carte da utilizzare nel Survival Mode.
Ho anche fatto una selezione delle carte dei set Chaos legion e Rebellion che uso poco nel Modern Format e che potrei utilizzare nel Survival Mode perchè se dovessero andare in cooldown non influenzerebbero i miei risultati di gioco nel Modern Format.
Mi piace molto l'idea alla base del Survival Mode e sono contento che ci sarà una nuova modalità di gioco per utilizzare le carte di tutte le edizioni.
Personalmente non mi piace però la scelta di consentire i bots e i battle helpers nel Survival Mode perchè secondo la mia modesta opinione ogni nuova modalità di gioco dovrebbe essere pensata prima per garantire il divertimento dei giocatori umani che vogliono giocare solo contro giocatori umani e poi per chi ama utilizzare i bots.
Io sono un giocatore attivo su Splinterlands e mi diverto a giocare manualmente nel Modern Format ogni giorno da più di 5 anni.
Il nuovo Survival Mode sarà una modalità di gioco a cui giocherò manualmente fino a quando non ci saranno i bots.
Probabilmente nel survival mode non ci saranno i bots per pochi giorni.
Nei primi giorni giocherò manualmente poi utilizzerò XBOT che rilascerà presto la funzionalità per giocare nel Survival Mode.
Splinterlands è secondo me un gioco bellissimo e molto divertente, uno dei pochi giochi nel panorama dei giochi basati su blockchain che ha un gameplay strutturato e divertente alla sua base!
Concludo questo mio post mostrando la mia ultima battaglia giocata nel Modern Format che è l'unico formato in cui, secondo me, batte il cuore (il gameplay) di Splinterlands e in cui i giocatori umani come me possono divertirsi e spero che in futuro sarà rilasciata una versione del Survival Mode senza bots!
